my a4ld trans is going out in my 93 hatch imagine that
.well anyways,i was wondering if a c3 trans is any better,i was going to get on out of a 85 this weekend.what rpm are you guys running around 70-75 with the non-overdrive auto?i was going to get rid of my 3:73 rear and get a 3:08 rear also.what was the rear gear ratio for 4 cyl with auto 80-86?this is a car we take on trips on the interstate so i dont want to rev super high.dont want to go to stick cause my g/friend drives it and she cant drive stick very well.

It might be a better idea to get it rebuilt with explorer a4ld parts. Much stronger, still has OD and you dont have to worry about putting some junkyard tranny in.

I am doing the same thing to a car I am giving my sister. Please post how it turns out for you.I will go drive my car tomorow and see where the tach hit's in 4th gear.Mine is a 93' 5 spd and someone just replied and posted the gear ratio's for me.It was what I thought. The 4 th gear ratio in the 5 speed is the same as the 3rd gear in a non od auto tranny. My car is weird though. When I am on the highway in 5th it is at about 1300 rpm's at 70mph.I have not checked the rear end ratio yet.The tire size will also help you get a little more top end.You can drop a couple hundred rpm's with a tire about 2" larger wich would only raise the car about 1" at the most.I had a C4 in my 91 with 4:10's and a 26" tall tire running around 3200 on the highway. It has been a while since I owned that car but I think that was at about 60 or 65 mph.

My 79 5.0, with a c4, 2.73 gears, 225-60-15 tires, etc, runs about 2800 to 2900 at 70 on the intestate.

It will get 21 mpg, but I just don't like to drive it for long periods, since I got used to cars with overdrive.

probably because the autos suck and there arent any left that run, i know you dont want to, but a t5 would give you much better reliability, better milage, better peformance, and would almost certianly cost less then the auto. The C3 isnt a particulary reliable transmission either, as far as i know its basically the same as the a4ld without the overdrive. If you must have a 2.3 with an auto may i suggest finding a C4 bell housing from an auto 2.0-2.3 pinto and swapping in a C4 auto. It will cost you power and milage though.
