i have longtube headers will i be able to put those on and put other mustang exhaust with it or do i need to go to a shop?
(i want dual exhaust)
thanks
You can use regular mustang exhaust if you switch out teh cross member, on the back though you may have to add a hanger on the one side for tail pipes, any reputable exhuast shop should have what you need jus go in and ask to buy one.
You will need an 86 up double hump crossmember, and 86 up cats, and the hangers for the missing side, then you can use Mustang cat back exhaust system. I used the Flowmaster cat back system.
This will not work with long tube headers.
You can use an h-pipe for long tube headers, then use Mustang cat back exhaust, BUT it is against federal law to remove the cats, that is up to you.
Any aftermarket exhaust will fit your '83 provided that you have the double hump crossmember and order the factory exhaust support brackets and rubber hangers. I did this on my '79. I simply ordered Mac's longtube headers, 2.5" off road H-pipe, and 2.5 inch dual exhaust kit. I ordered the '87-'93 brackets/hangers from 5.0 resto (they all come in one kit) and everything bolted right on (I did have to drill two holes for a couple of bolts.) This bracket/hanger kit is identicle to the factory parts. Good luck!
Hey Hissing,
Did you put the crossmember hanger in also? I am in the middle of an exhaust swap and am confused as to which way the hanger is supposed to face.
No, I didn't use the crossmember hanger. It was extremely difficult to fit the H-Pipe into it and my brother said that if I ever had to get it off and on again, it would be a battle. I just intalled the H-Pipe directly to the end of the headers and cranked them down tight. I then installed the 2.5" catback system and tightened those bolts down real good to the H-Pipe. I haven't had a problem and I've had the system on since April of '04. I've also had the H-Pipe off a couple of times and it went back on nicely.
