Ok I have a 83 mustang gt 5.0 (ho ?). Just got the car from some young adult that put new carb. and a few other thing on it and it started a little fire under the hood. Damage to the outside of the carb. and few wires. I have put a new duraspark, coil and distributor. Things I've done ground coil wire to body chassis, Looks like red/brown wire to the + coil (12 volt source with key on). Things in question on main wires (red/brown use on + coil) green not used, tan/red used on the oil pressure unit, I have white/black and a black wire from the alternator not used. I have put the motor up on tdc and ran both firing orders started with 1-5-4-2-6-3-7-8 nothing then ran 1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8 and nothing. All vacuum port on the back of the manifold are block off. I have no clue where these ports go. I rebuild and drag race a 600 hp pontiac. This is my first ford touched. What is happening is motor is turning over but no spark to the plugs. Please help!!!:bang:

ok, it sounds like your duraspark isn't getting power.

provided that no one has swapped the cam in your car, the '83 5.0 will have the H.O. firing order (1-3-7-2-6-5-4-8).

Now, I'm looking at my wiring diagram for an '83 5.0, and it shows:

power wires to duraspark from chassis harness: red/lt grn goes to wht/lt blu; red/lt blu goes to wht on duraspark side of harness (make sense?)

duraspark to dizzy: ppl/lt blue; org/yel; blk lt grn

duraspark to coil: dk grn/yel to (-) side of coil which also splices to tach lead-bottom line, this must be connected to coil

coil should have red/green (same wire to duraspark power) to (+) side

incidentally, the red/grn wire to + side of coil is showing a resistance wire between duraspark and coil (to keep coil from frying)

hope this helps...

And here is the wiring diagram to make it easier...
