85mm C&L MAF (worthless or beneficial)

I have been doing research on this topic and I am getting more confused with each fact I uncover

I will start off with listing my Mods so you know what I have:
Year: 2003
Model: Mustang GT
Mods: 2003 GT Auto
Steeda Underdrive Pullies
MAC Pro-Chamber
Steeda Timing adjuster
Magnaflow Catback system
FRP 3.73 gears
Bilstein HD shocks
K&N filter
2003 Cobra Bilstein Struts
Upper and Lower Control arms
FRP Aluminum Driveshaft
PA Valve body
Biggest tranny cooler I could fit
C&L 85mm MAF
Accufab Throttlebody 75 mm
Dragon Plenum
180 degree thermostat
Custom burnt chip

I recently added the Dragon, Throttle Body and 85mm MAF.. but since adding the C&L my car has been acting up a bit, when I slow down at stop signs my idle pulse's and my car seems a little slower.. I contacted a local tuner here in Vegas and his response to the C&L MAF (same tuner that burnt my chip so he knows my car)

The plenum and 75 TB are definitely making power, but the 85mm MAF is
something you can do without. Your stock 80mm MAF is not causing a
restriction, and the MAF transfer function / fuel trims will be spot on
with your stock MAF. The C&L meters usually make the car run leaner
(making more power) initially, but over the course of 2-3 drive cycles,
the car will actually run richer (Ford's adaptive strategy, long story).

I'm thinking if my A/F ratios were dead on before, (adjusted on DYno and burnt into my custom chip) and with me having no forced induction a C&L MAF gives me no benefit?? Won't my cars ECU adapt ??

This is a $270 part, I would really like to know if its Snake Oil, or if my car just didn't like it!! I have disconnected my battery and let it reset, but my idle is choppier, and I'm really not satisfied!!

Hey High, i just recently put in my C&L 85mm MAF as well, i put it in to go with my FRPP 70mm Throttle body and my Trick flow upper plenum. I havent had a chance to drive my car yet since installing the MAF, i have just had it idle in the garage, while everything seems great through all this ideling, im curious to see how it drives. If this thing starts out lean and then gets richer thats BS, like you i didnt pay that kind of money to have that happen. Im curious to hear more about this.

BTW, it has been stated on here many times that if you go into get your car tuned with a C&L MAF in your car, you will be most likely laughed back out the door. I have long since marked this off my list of mods to buy.

I have recieved to more responses from 2 other tuners at the Las Vegas Speedway

"Randy, I remember your car, Hopefully its still running strong, I will have to decline the offer to tune your car, nothing against you, but in the past I have had such problems tuning a car with a C&L MAF I have vowed never to tune one again. I believe you will have the same results if you ask around the tuning community, for it is a total nightmare!!"

wtf have I gotten myself into... I'm taking it off and going with the stock one!! The other tuner had never tuned one before, but said my stock one should be adequate with my mods, he recommended putting my money instead into a different mod. He did say that he has heard its "hit or miss" with most cars.... ( i guess mine was a miss)

The good thing is I have spoken to Ronnie Diaz and he has assured me that he will take care of me.. another good reason to go with a stand up guy, that takes care of his customers...

i'm glad you posted this thread..i am SERIOUSLY reconsidering my plans to get the C & L MAF...i may end up getting the Pro-M instead..thanks again for posting this up here for us.

well Im not one to knock a product before trying it, I'm just telling it like it is.. I do want people to know that if you ever want to get your car tuned, or get a chip made I have now heard from 3 tuners saying they will not touch my car with a C7L MAF on it...

Now if someone with some technical knowledge knows more about the subject please chime in. I hear Lee from C&L frequents these boards, I again am not saying this product may not work on all cars, it just didnt work on mine,

If it does make your car lean, and if that is how people see increases, then I would rather stick with a dyno tune for 50 bucks and get precision then a "hit and miss technique"

all you need to run 13.1 in a 99+ gt is
steeda t/a
cnl plenum
steeda cold air intake
magnaflow o/r x
magnaflow catback(mainly for looks)
4.10s
shifter
and some form of sticky tire, i ran on 555rs, broke the axle and sold them
to run 13.2, minus the 555rs and replace with stock tires.

everything else on the car is bone stock. no suspension work, yet...
