i have both a 85 and a 140 gauge cluster, but my question is, can i use the 140 speedometer face and swap it with my 85? the reason im asking is the 140 cluster is pretty shot but the speedo is working fine. or could i just use a gauge face and use the 140 speedometer tranny gear? i dont know if this is confusing or not but i really want the 140gauge.

You could swap the face, but its pointless as the readings would be inaccurate.

i have a spedometer cable on each with a gear on each, theyre both different i thought if i used the 140 with its gear it would read accurately.

Before the 2.3 in the Wife's Notch went belly up, I swapped in a 140 unit. It reads exactly like the 85mph unit. No change to the driven gear in the trans. just took 20 minutes to do the swap.

Take cluster apart, remove the 140MPH speedo unit. Remove needle, unbolt speedo from plastic frame and then carefully remove the speedo face off the plastic frame. Flip speedo over, drive out small roll pin on odometer and carefully reset mileage to what your car has. Drive the roll pin back in.

If you get to that point, then try to do the same with your 85MPH unit and swap them.

im not to worried about the miles on the cluster, on the title the miles say exempt anyway. i also didnt have a dash in the car when i got it so i found this one in the shop.

All you have to do is take the cluster apart, pull the temp/oil gauges out, then pull out the speedo. Then install the 140 speedo, then reverse the tear down. You are making this harder then it is. Just sayin...
