86 gt bumper conversion

I agree completely. The 86 gt's fyi, are often considered THE meanest and most desireable year fox body mustang out there because of that front end. They look completely badass... do you really want to ford tempo'ize your mustang??? your car is different than all the rest, rather than butcher your car, leave it as is and enjoy it :)

come over to foureyedpride.com, for 79-86 mustangs, you'll see truly how nice they can look, and how many fans there really are.

the nose itself is an easy bolt off bolt on operation. The whole assemble is held on with like 10 bolts. You would have to splice the light wiring of course. You would also need to change the hood and also the side molding to make it look right. But Im on the same side of the fence as the other guys. The 85-86 nose is the meanest looking of the fox body stangs and I would leave it if it were me. But its your car.

Proud owner of an 86GT--I have wanted this car for years because of the front end. I can honestly say that there are not many stangs around my part of the woods, but I truly have the most unique at it is the only Four Eye around.

If you want to change it, go for it. Your car needs to make you happy--but please, oh please consider keeping it a four eye and register on foureyedpride.com.

Another vote for keeping the 86 Front end on. You will regret converting the front end for many reasons.

Sure it may be easy to swap the bumper over, however the modlings on an 86 are different than the moldings on an 87-93. So unless you upgrade all the moldings all the way around the car, nothing else on the body will even match the front end your putting on. It'll look wack. You can always tell an 87-93 front end conversion because no one takes the time to do it right. If you really want an aeronose mustang bad enough and don't mind looking like the tempo's, taurus's and escorts, sell the 86 and use the money to buy an aeronose. Otherwise keep the 86 front end, enjoy being somewhat different, and enjoy the fact that you have one of the meanest looking fox body mustangs ever produced.

the 86 front end will grow on you, trust me.

Hey I just registered here, but post on Four Eyed Pride (mentioned above) daily. I say keep the front end the 86 Gt's as mentioned are on of the most saught after Fox Bodied cars. I have an 85 coupe and i love how it looks in Black, as well as an 86 LX Hatch, it looks mean IMO even without the foglight holes, I say simply mod the car as is and keep it looking stock. come on over to www.foureyedpride.com and check out the forums, it's a great place, lots of GREAT examples of foureyed cars, tons of tech articles, and everybody is willing to help you. The only thing I can think of is posting pics of our four eyed rides to help persuade you, Im sure many more from over there will be here to try and convince you to not go aero.

But if you do choose to change front end its more than just bolting on a new clip.. I would recommend getting 87+ doors, fenders, hood, and the front clip.and changing the rear bumper also, its not just a simple operation, its actually quite time consuming for anyone that has actually done it. I say fenders because drilling new holes for the bolts to line up is a PITA, and without the doors to line up correctly and the right side mirrors it looks kinda off. Then theres the wiring splicing involved in chaning headlamp assemblys ect.. It's not as easy as people make it out to be is all Im saying..

Anyways here are some pictures of my 85 Coupe in hopes that you will change your mind about this conversion.

It's do-able, but why? Not only would you have to change the hood, bumper, side moldings etc, but you'd also have to hack the wiring.

The 85-86's were the coolest looking of the fox bodies imho. And there are less and less 4-eyes on the streets every day, I'd love to have an 85-86, especially an 86 gt, best of both worlds, fuel injection with the 4-eye front.

Also, the resale on hacked cars is not good at all.

Next to classic stangs, the 85-86 ones are my favorites :nice: These are now collectible cars. 86 is the first year for true 5.0 FI and last year for that killer front nose style.....and did we mention getting rarer every day?

well since im a little late in this post... i assume by now you have changed your mind and are either going to sell the car and get an escort... err uh aeronose fox, or gonna keep the 4 eye a 4 eye and not degrade it with the escort front end. 4 eyes are like those hott school girl chicks that wear the short skirts, button up shirt thats tied in a knott at the bottom and showing her stomach, and then puts glasses on and is like 40000000x hotter. 4 eyes>aeronose

Have a good day,
Mike

The four eye's are some of the most bad ass looking rides in Mustang history. They are different, which is a good thing in today's world. They look very agressive compared to the aero stangs. Just put a nice cowl hood on that bitch with a nice set of wheels and killer paint job and be doe with the out side. And for Christ sakes, don't put the Saleen bumper conversion for '85-'86's on it. Keep the stock look with the fog lights, they look totally sweet.

Where are you located?? And what shape is your 86 cover in?? If you decide to do it,, how much you want for the 86GT front?? I wouldn't mond to get a spare incase I need one for my car...

sorry took so long but ihavent been on in a while... I own a 92 LX but my dad was looking into an 86 and i was just curious on the whole swap...

dude, the 86 front end is themeanest front end ever made, why the hell would he want to swap it off??

tell him to buy an aero nose if he wants an aero nose rather than destroying a four eye. It's not as easy as it sounds, you have to convert the bumpers to the newer fiberglass style, modify the headlight harness, change the bumper cover, hood and ALL mouldings for the entire car
