Hi All. New to the forum and just picked up a low mileage 86 GT hatch. Its got the original moulding on it but for some reason a previous owner painted the side GT lettering blue (looks horrible). Does anyone know how I could get it back to the original light gray and color? Maybe I could use some sort of paint pen? Appreciate any help.

If the normal masking, priming, and painting isn't sufficient, there's always this option:

Thanks. I had an 85 GT hatchback way back in the late 80s and was my first car out of college. I loved that car and always wanted another. I picked up this 86 a few weeks ago and waiting for nice weather to get it out. It came with some hideous wheels so I added the 17 inch wheel/tire package from LMR. The car has 38k miles and is in really nice shape. There are a few little things that need to be fixed like weatherstrips, paint faded mirror, etc.

I was able to find a decal to cover the blue GT lettering and I'll post that when I'm done.

I [love] those wheels.

That is what I'm going with when I convert to 5-lug.

Yeah they look really good on the 85/86 and the nitto tires make them look even better. Someone before me did the 5 lug conversion but kept the stock brake size. Maybe it was so they could use the stock calipers but there is alot of room for brake upgrade to 11 inch behind those 17 inch wheels. Thats on my list of upgrades.

I've got the 13 inch rotors and "stuff" for the SN95 Cobra conversion.

I may be missing a small fitting here and there but all the big pieces are here.

Not on the agenda for this year but I'll keep it in mind. Maybe this winter.

Not sure. I'll have the wheels off this week and will measure the rotors. They dont look very big to me but I'm not really up to speed on all of the configs available.

I say that because I do not think the stock calipers will fit on the SN95 upgrade...

May have done the Lincoln Mark VII front rotor conversion and Ranger rear axle swap. You will appreciate the SN95 brakes over the Fox garbage as they were barely adequate to stop the car coming out of the driveway. If you do not want to pop for the Cobra level then just go with the V6/GT stuff and use the 99-04 front calipers as they are dual piston and make a difference for low $$$. And as always good brake pads make a huge difference.

Thanks. I've asked the previous owner if he has any more info on what was changed during the 5-lug conversion (but wasnt done by him) and will take some pics of front/back this weekend. I would go with the best set-up I can get that will work without any modifications so any advice would be appreciated. Not interested in lowering the car as I want to keep it looking stock. Thanks again!

Mark VII rotors are 11” and require the 87-93 V8 Mustang or 87-88 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe spindles. I want to say the Mark VII spindles are different geometry wise but don’t know enough about them to say for sure.

The Ranger front rotors are 10” and use the 86 and down or 87-93 4 cylinder Mustang spindles or the 83-88 Thunderbird (non-Turbo Coupe) / Cougar spindles.

Either setup will fit behind the 10 hole center caps and the 94-97 Cobra wheel center caps.
