This is an fyi post...
I just had my dash out to replace the AC evaporator core, heater core and install the 85-86 Ford ETR electronic radio in my 85 GT. Everything went smoothly, or so it seemed. When we got it all back together, the low fuel light on the console graphic display was on. There was about a 1/4 tank of fuel in it. Prior to having the dash out, I remember it used to come on with about an 1/8 tank left, not 1/4. We filled it up to about 1/2 a tank, still on. We followed the steps in the factory service manual to check the low fuel light staying on. Things kept pointing to an issue with the IVR (instrument voltage regulator), which was odd since it wasn't showing any abnormal readings on the gauges and other than taking the cluster out and putting it back in, didn't mess with it. We tried the easiest fix first, which was to put in a new low fuel warning switch behind the dash, which didn't fix it. So we went ahead and took out the cluster and put in a new IVR, which is located on the rear of the instrument cluster housing. Bingo, fixed.
The reason I'm posting this is when I first heard of the issue, I did some google searches on the low fuel warning light staying on, I found some posts on other forums about it, but never really saw a fix for it. So hopefully this is of help to someone in the future if they have a similar issue and need some guidance.
Thanks.
