Just wondering how the radio comes out of an 86 SVO. All of my books are about 4 hours away and I can't find anything on the internet. Thanks for any help!

Doesn't it use DIN tools to remove it? That's how my '90 was at least. If it has four holes in the face, near the corners, that's what it uses, they sell em at wal-mart for a couple bucks.

on my 86 lx i had to unbolt it and pull it out the back, on console cars that requires removing the console.

there are one or two philips head bolts above the radio, under the climate control, and i unbolted the cross bar behind it, and i think the plastic part of the lower dash and pulled that towards the shifter while pushing the radio out. the ground was bolted to teh car chassis and not in the harness fyi, might be different on an svo.

it comes out from behind the dash...take your time with this and don't get too frustrated. The '86 and earlier radio installs are different then the '87-'93.

The SVO should be the same as all 79 to 86's. It comes out from behind the dash. If its and oem style, it has knobs, and there are nuts on the tubes that the shafts come out of that hold it in, and probably a bracket at the rear. The dash opening is way smaller than the unit. May have a separate amp in there also.

Remove the console, etc, the knobs, and the trim plates over the ratio, etc.

It does take a while because there's so much stuff to unbolt.

hi i do this stuff all day at work, i install stereos a circuit city, first you disconnect the power, speaker, and antenna wires from the rear of the radio. next pull off the knobs and discs and remove radio retaining nuts. remove face plate, next you need to remove the upper support screws, then remove the rear support screws. then remove the rear support nut. slide radio out from rear.
hope this helps any trouble just lemme know and ill work ya through it
