86 w/mass air wont start needs jumpstart please i'm dumb

:nono: i have double checked all my connections and changes from the 89 computer and mass air meter to my 86 mass air swap and everything is exactly right...ive been building my car for three years now and needs some help i have fuel pressure have spark turns over fine...whats a good checklist i can follow i changed all my fusible links all fuses themselves are good and have power where it needs to be....are there sensors i should have changed???? any help would be appreciated i put in a computer from 89 have cobra heads injectos adj fuel pressure reg a9l computer i dont know what to look for anymore....

ok well how about we start here what kind of harness are you usieng ? is it the one with just the maf plug and u have to move pins around on the computer? does the car start at all or does it just spin over? was the maf conversion the only thing you did at this point and time of when this problem occured?Check the ground strap on the injctor harness it should either be bolted to the intake or the bellhousing but if it isnt conected the car will not start , allso check the ground wire by the computer make sure it wasnt forgot about .

it ran last year

it ran using starting fluid last year this year now that its getting nice out i need to get it going again it just pops and tries but wont start...it would only start with starting fluid last year but would idle and run great...i rearranged the vacuum lines as it was getting cold and stopped there it could have something to do with it but ive checked those and theyre all being used and seem to be correct but maybe not...i just fixed all the maf wiring and im using the 86 harness and had to move the pins around but ive checked them several times and had a friend do it to just be sure i wasnt over looking something...86 stock harness maf meter from an 86 gt and a9l computer from same vehicle..cobra heads injectors ect thanks for your input..will check the grounds but ive been working on it forever and doubled up all grounds just to be sure any help would be appreciated...truely

ok so it starts off the starting fluid and thats it have u checked to see what kind of fp you have with just turning the key fowards ? how do your plugs look? how old is the fuel in the car and have you thought about droping the tank and cleaning it out if the car has been sitting that long its possable that the sock on the very bottom of the pump is stopped up enough to retsrict it enough from build enough fp to start but last year when u got it running with starting fluid was enough to just get it started to suck fuel past the stopped up sock on the pump

timing issue would be a good guess like crazy04mach stated. it would run off starting fluid too so it makes sense. someone just posted a thread about this not that long ago, you can try searching it see what people thought it was

ok now im not doubting anybody here but why would the timing be off so far that iit needed starting fluid to start but run and drive fine ? im just asking bc in the beging he said it need it to start but then it idle and run great in his words.

that helps....

i filled it with premium last year as far as ive been told the octane will drop a little but not so much it wont even start...i think it would just run like crap but obviously no expert...as far as the sock on the sending unit goes that was brand new two years ago with a high flow pump....i installed a new cam and heads and the timing chain is perfect i got the distributor close but would it not even start being a few degrees off? it may not be perfect but i doubt thats the issue but i'll time it tomorrow and get back to you...meanwhile any other suggestions? oh and last year i tested the fuel pressure with a professional guage it was like 40psi i believe....thanks for your help

this could sound stupid??????

when i originally went for the maf conversion i got a new harness from an 86 lx i think mines gt...theres a relay by the wiper motor where the mess of wires goes into the firewall to the dash harness....i dont think that relay was on my old harness not totally sure but i dont remember it....also theres two round plugs there does anyone have a schematic of what those wires do and why theyre also different collors....one wire on the dash harness side of the harness theres one wire orange with a blue stripe that has literally no where to go

ok unless you have a california car as far as i know the first year for mas air was 89 so the harness mite be the same as far as the plug ends and u said u had the car started off starting fluid at first and it would idle good and run good , did all this other stuff start happening befor the maf or after the heads and stuff? just trying to figure out if its a mechanical issue or electrical

everything was done last year mechanical and electrical now just tryin to clean it up...i know 100% my mass air wiring is good...mechanical or electrical could go either way....pins are swapped right i did all the optional signal wires everything is heat shrinked and soldered what now guys?

it runs!!! but still have a problem with Mass air maybe???

played with the dizzy and finally got it started need to fully time it but im getting quite a bit of white smoke out of the tailpipes and i checked my dipstick and NO signs of moisture on the stick what causes this besides coolant? it also idles at 2500 should i adjust fuel pressure the thropple position sensor or anything besides the timing?
