87 - 93 5.0's

These are the years of the forged pistons, right? Are the rods or anything else forged as well?

86-92 has Forged piston's. 93' has Hyperuetic. Rods' are nothing special...cast. Same with Crank.

Ditto. 89-93 also had Mass-Air which is nice to start with if you are going to be modding, but not necessary at all!

Actually 1985 5 speeds also had the forged pistons

Just so you know 86' came with Flat Top's and require notching for piston to valve clearence usually if any higher lift cam or aftermarket head's are going to be used.

here's kinda of an off topic question. i know the rods are cast but aren't they 4340 pot metal?

as i recall, the switch to hypereutectic pistons happened in late 92 model year (some late 92's have hypers).
