87-93 a/c converting

Has anyone converted there a/c in there 87-93 stang yet if so are there any good step by step tech articles or any good documentation on do's and don'ts and what about pricing, is it worth it. I think my 1990 needs a charge of R12 but I am leaning towards converting the system on her depending on how complex it might be, but I want to do it the right way.

go to a shop and have them do a leak test on it and pull all the old stuff out. and you can buy kits at advanced auto for like 30 bucks that include all the freon you need and the oil and the retro fittings. sold quite a few of them and havent had any people complain

do the kits at the auto store have the 0 rings that need to be replaced when you do the conversion or do you need to buy them seperate

im not sure...they might come with it. you could call them and ask. what year is it for? because i know they started putting o-rings in them that it didnt matter what freon went in it. also you might want to replace your expansion valve...or orifice tube....whichever one it has

I got a 134a conversion kit from Ford. My girlfriend is a service manager for a Lincolin Mercury dealer and I got the kit for cost 17 bucks. I had one of the techs drain the system and added the new 134a. Total was around $45 after all done. My system worked fine with out any leaks. It has been in for 3 years and havent had one problem. The Kit retails from Ford 30-40 dollars and includes 4 fittings and oil. The oil is more compatible with freon, than the first kits, where o rings needed replaced. Good luck its not very expensive...

make sure that if you have a shop do it (or you do), that you pull a good vacuum on the system for at least 30 minutes before recharging. pull vac as long as you can. remember, R134 molecules are a lot smaller than R12 - if you have a leak with R12, you will really lose the R134.
if you find that you need to replace O-rings, i personally like to use Nylog on them. nice stuff to go towards a lack of leaks. and dont forgot to not overcharge the system.
