87-93 chin spoiler?

I want to try and find a chin spoiler for my 1990 GT. I've never seen one avalible and was hoping you guys could help me out. Also, if there are not any avalible, has anyone ever built one. I would like one similar to the 04 mach 1. Thanks

As mean as it sounds ... Thats not a sought after mod for these model mustangs... I can't think of a company that sells one.. and if they do I have not seen one on any fox body before so its not a real popular thing to do.. sorry

I was looking becasue ive never seen one. i like the way a black chin spoiler looks on a lot of the newer mustangs and if there was a decent on out there i would like to see it. apparantly not though

is that the perfectly flat black lip that sticks out of some stalker kits? I'm not sure what ur talkin about, but dont not get it cuz NOBODY else has it, thats actually an opportunity for you to be different than everyone, and also have something that YOU want, remember this is YOUR car - I have no opinions on this chin spoiler because i dont know what it looks like ona stang, get a pic, photoshop somethin, and have it made, you could always make it out of fleece and resin if you were a master craftsmen, like i could come up w/ somethin, but it would be far from looking right LOL good luck -

Im with you man. Id love to get a good chin spoiler. Thats my one grip with stangs is the front end looks high. I love the low in front and curved up rear look. I have thought about trying a aluminum spoiler but not sure how itd turn out due to my novice metal working ability.

You would probably have to fabricate one. Most of those SCCA and American Iron Series racers have them on thier cars. Dont let people on here discourage you though. Its your car... do your thing.

Griggs Racing "Old Blue" Car is on the bottom of the page. Has a chin spoiler, but I doubt it would be beneficial on a street car.

yeah that autocross spoiler looked kinda "unrefined" to be nice. I was hoping for something a bit more clean. You could always try the Mach I chin spoiler like I have on my 85gt. You have to mold it to fit and take your time gettin it all lined up. But for a few buck$ and a good bit of time, you can get somewhat of the spoiler look. G/L

I like this one on the this coupe. I want to make one or find a griggs spoiler. They only made them for a short time and they are hard to find.

JoeElliot I'd like to see that mach 1 chin spoiler on your car , attach some pics. I think something like the old trans am boss chin spoiler would look good.

Here's mine:

I used a dremel to cut it down and an orbital hand sander to shape it. I cut reliefs into the corners so that it would bend and fit the way that I wanted and heated it with a gun to make it more pliable while I bolted and screwed it all down. I drilled the holes into the air-damn to take advantage of stock hardware locations and only had to drill 4 holes into the sheet-metal of the car itself for the wrap around side pieces.

Later, I cut it down even more to get rid of the wrap-around pieces. They were more trouble than they were worth for catching the edges of driveways etc. and also made it very difficult to get a jack under the car.

The modification made a huge difference in the way the car handles at high speed. The whole car is a LOT more stable than it ever was. Removing the side pieces do not seem to have had an effect in that improvement.

Edit: BTW... the spoiler sites approx 4 inches off of the ground at it's lowest point. You've got to be mindful of that when driving/parking etc.

Daggar, What did you make this out of? Is this the Ranger one? I was thinking about trying a Mach 1 chinspoiler and using a heat gun to fit it.

Yes... (sorta). The orignial part number came from a Bronco II (same thing basically). The shipping of the part cost as much as the part itself did.

Edit: Which by the way was only like $23 or $26 for the part itself.

if you are trying to get a flush look like the 99-04 Mach chin a trick 94-98 guys are doing is using wheather striping. Think of the rubber ground scraper on the bottom of some doors that reaches down like an inch and a half, or so. the parts can be bought from Home Depot or Lowes. as jerry rigged as it sounds it looks good.

if thats the direction you are looking to go just do research on 94-98 make shift Mach chins and see how they do it.

Well, the main thing I'm concerned with is ground clearance my car is low as it is and I dont want to be like the import guys that do the diagonal turns over speed bumps. I guess I could get a Bronco chin spoiler and make it the height I want it.

Yeah... that's the beauty of it. The spoiler is ABS plastic. Use rough sandpaper disks to shape and trim it then finer stuff to finish the edges. Just make sure you don't do this in your garage or kitchen. hehe A dust mask is also a plus.

I would've suggested just plain ol' sheetmetal or aluminum - I'm mindful of parking curbs and such, anyhow - but now that you mention speed bumps, perhaps that ain't such a great idea for material, after all.

Those doorway draft-catchers (or whatever the technical term is for 'em) usually only appear to be about 1" in width. Do they make some kind of larger super-sized ones for industrial applications or something? And if they're made of rubber or vinyl like most of them tend to be, wouldn't it tend to get kind of bent back and warped by the wind/heat and look goofy after awhile?

I was thinking of something more along the lines of that flexible black plastic garden edging you see in the Lawn & Garden department. It's got a rounded edge on one side and a sharp straight one on the other - you could drill and then mount the rounded part to the underside of the front bumper fascia with a few screws, trim up the edges to make it look cleaner, and call it done for pretty cheap. Not sure how it'd hold up to heat, but it'd be a little more rigid than rubber/vinyl, anyway...
