87-93 Locking Gas Door/Cap??Anyone know of one?!!

uhmm, i think some company makes a universal one for fords, did you try autzone or advance auto? not sure where to find one online though. what about jc whitney?

Ummmm...What do you mean by, "the stock door doesn't lock...are your crazy"? My fuel door locks as well! In fact, I think all 87-93 Mustangs had a fuel door release button in the glove box which "unlocked" the fuel filler door. Are you looking for a gas cap that locks???

Not all fuel doors lock, it was optional with the remote hatch/trunk release. Neither my '89 nor '86 have locking gas doors.

You can find used fuel door release mechanisms on eBay all the time.

HOLY SH iT ..are u guys serious?! hey im sorry i had no idea!! seriously i know pretyt much about fox body stangs and ive NEVER knew some had locking gas doors..wow..mine def. doesnt..and it has all the options..power doors, locks, and even power lumbar seat pumps....how can i convert it over?!!!

autozone has locking gas caps for like 10 bucks...prob. a lot easier than converting over to the button thing and also, if you lock your glove box like me, you gotta unlock the freaking glove box to hit the button...i just use a key and open my cap...more convenient I think...

It was only on pre-90 cars that the option existed, after that it was done away with. I would think that you could probably buy the used parts and set it up yourself if you really wanted to, but I've never had anything except problems with them. They eventually wear out and need the motor replaced, etc.

Locking the glove box is not a good idea. If someone broke into your car, and tried to open the glove box, and it's locked, they might think you have something valueable in there, and destroy the box to try to open it, only to find nothing. I think I read this in one of those security threads on here.

Black Fox, i agree with you (unless you have a vert. locking keeps lookie-loos out).

i did not know they were an option either (then n/a). if you convert, make sure to use the cable with it (cable goes into trunk, for when motor fails). mine is finicky and unless the battery is topped off (i dont drive the car much, but work on it a lot, draining the battery), it wont work. might have some resistance in the wiring.

you can hook it up to your alarm (just like you do the trunk release), so you can leave the glove box locked, if desired.

as for a locking cap, i think its a decent idea. the fuel doors are not strong. if someone wants in to take gas or dump something in the tank, its not an obstacle. i bet parts stores sell them. there arent that many sizes of necks and threads, since the neck is mandated by law to be a certain size (going back to when leaded fuel was around-werent supposed to get a leaded nozzle into an unleaded filler). ford probably only uses a few (or less) and since some of the other cars dont have the filler that secures, they probably see locking caps often. stant makes the ones in the parts stores here. try their site? if they have one.

i looked at autozone's site. they sell two locking caps (one vented) for my 88 gt.
CST 5791 locking
CST5501 locking with vent
10 and 12 bucks, respectively.

Heres another twist from ford. My GT has the fuel door release button in the glove box, but it didn't have the hatch release button. there was just a plug in the spot for it. So I hit up a JY, found a hatchback that had one and pulled the button & harness plug out & rear harness plug & tossed them in my pocket (shhh). when I pulled off the rubber ends of the hatch, the factory wiring harness was already setup for it. it was just wrapped up in tape to hide it. Took 15 min to pop in.

A company called, Stant, makes replacement caps of all kinds. Their model #10501 is a locking gas cap for 1990 Mustangs.

You should be able to find them at many auto parts stores.

Mine has the locking door. I doubt it would really keep someone out but it's not the easiest thing to force open. Either way...i like it

I've never heard of anyone stealing gas from anyone, unless you have people after you, or live where people would put stuff or something in your tank then get the door lock, and the locking cap.
