Im new at this message board and just had a question that i couldent find out.

I have a 87 mustang, and when u turn the wheel all the way to one direction, the car turns off, why is that and how could it be fixed?

re:

what do u mean turn over? all i know is that the car turns off when the steering wheel is turned all the way to either side. i also dont have the key to remove the tires, is there any way i can get one.

He means will the starter engage. Theory is that there's an electrical short in there, once it is reached the system shuts down, including the starter.

Off-topic...I thought it humorous that an 87 was considered a classic for a minute there...then I realized that an 87 is older now than my 67s were when I started digging into them.

Man, where did the decades go? :D

re:

well when u turn on the car everything is ok its just when u turn the steering wheel the car turns off. how would u fix something like this? Can a noob fix the problem or would it be something a mechanic would have to look at. cuz to tell u the truth im the noob here.

Try turning the wheel to the point where everything shuts down. Then hold the wheel at that position and see if it will start (turn over) or if the headlights or radio work.

Most likely you have a chaffed or loose wire in the column that will need to be repaired or replaced. Only you can say if that is beyond your abilities or not, but do you know how to remove your steering wheel? I don't. I have removed the steering wheels from classics (65-68s), and done the same on my 2005 with airbag. but I don't know how to tell you to do it on an 87. There's another forum on Stangnet for Fox body Mustangs (79-93), I am 100% sure folks there will be of more help than most of the guys who hang out here.
