Hey guys, I just purchased a 72 Mustang convertible with a 88 5.0 GT engine in it. Any idea how to hook up the old dash speedometer and etc to it? Anyone have any idea on wiring? Thanks!

And the rest of the wiring to the dash/gauge cluster from the 5.0?

I've been watching this thread from the beginning, and every time you say something, it gets more and more confusing. More info is called for here! EFI? Carb? What trans?

Most/all of the dash-gauge wiring from the 5.0 isnt used, this is where you retain the original setup.

The speedo is entirely mechanically driven by a cable. If you didnt know that...

I am also confused.

The speedometer hooks via speedo cable and gear to the trans....no electronics.

Now, if the car has a late model 5.0 in it, there is nothing to hook up from the engine other than:
-oil sending unit
-water temperature sensor

Those two items hook up nearly univerasally on Ford engines prior to 1995.

What else needs to be hooked up? Please be specific as there are not many things, if anything, that are engine dependant that need to be hooked up.

Was this car running and functional when you bought it?
