hey everyone. well im getting ready to buy my buddies '89 GT covertible off him for like $1000 bucks or so.(brand new top) it has about 127K on the clock and I was just wondering if I could get a little help. i was wondering if anyone out there could recommend what i should do to get the engine maintenance etc. up to par. it was well taking car of, but the body and what not has been through its fair share of wear and tear.

also if anyone could recommend some good 5.0 performance parts it would help out a little. thanks in advance.

that is a big task. get a list of what your buddy has done (when and what milage it was done at). that way you wont be too redundant.

get a repair manual. in the front is the service schedule - i would go through all the things listed in the sections through the 30K milage section. things like plugs, all fluids, filters, etc. be sure to give it a once over upon getting it, so you can find anything else in the suspension, etc that needs to be addressed. good luck.

sounds like a good idea. what about performance parts? can you (anyone) recommend certain parts too me. thanks again. its pretty well taken care of so hopefully it would cost too too much getting things up to par.

it depends upon the part being replaced. i go with better quality on some things, while use cheaper parts elsewhere. it might be better to ask what parts you specifically want to know about.
off the top of my head - do use a Motorcraft PCV, PCV grommet and screen (aftermarket parts often dont fit real well). use quality wires (FRPP, Taylor, etc), copper plugs (Autolite 25's for me). stuff like fuel filters - i use parts store stuff.

also, Downs ford has a tune up kit. it has a bunch of stuff for ~80 bucks. people have said it is a good deal - i have not seen what all it comes with.

ask what parts you have in mind and people can tell ya what they like.

good luck.
