Hey everyone, I just recently purchased a 1989 Convertible GT. The frame assembly on the convertible top has broken on the final arm, and the top itself has seen better days. I found a donor car (1990) convertible with a solid frame assembly and top, but I can't find anywhere that says you can remove the whole top, frame and top, together. Is this possible, or would I be wasting my time trying to do it and have to just bite the bullet and buy them separately? Hope yall can help cause I am clueless here

I mean like can I take the frame off with the top still connected without destroying it?

I don't know, never tried, the couple I've done in the past the canvas was junk.
I think it may be hard to adjust with the canvas in place, maybe release the canvas on the header, adjust the rack then reattach the canvas, you'll need a couple extra hands swapping the racks, makes it more manageable.

Yes, you can remove/replace the whole top as an assembly if you want. I've done it on my old 84 and my current 87. Without being outside and just going from memory, you'll have to remove the nuts around the perimeter of the back window, then unzip it to remove it. Then there are a total of 12(?) nuts to remove the top as an assembly. 2 on each side for the main structure, then I believe there are 4 per arm on another piece. It'll be more or less self-explanatory once you're in there....

This post doesn't exactly show everything, but you can get a decent idea of what needs to be removed.

Spent about 6 hours r&r the top and reinstalling the header panel, none of it's perfect but it won't fall apart. Just waiting on brake shoes, then this will be ready to go.
