8v @ SENDING UNIT?

my gas gauge is pegged to full...i put a 84ohm resistor in like jrichker(thankx) said...but it is still pegged to FULL! i checked voltage at sending unit and it reads 8.25v with car running...also to check my fuel level i have to : (very quickly) rotate the key on /off.....each time it gets lower and lower until it dont go no lower and theres my fuel level...

Does 8v at sending unit mean bad ground at gauge ?


INFO: Gauge cluster is a 140 i got from a junkyard...my 85mph 1 used to read 1/4tank when empty...and wayyy past full when full....i used both slosh modules(just to see), and it still doesnt mark at all like it used to.

I think Im gonna pull the cluster and then change out the gauge needle, I guess, IDK, I already swapped the in-tank sending unit to no avail. Its very annoying.....to say the least.

thats what im trying to avoid..((throwin parts at it) not that i can afford to)
UPDATE:that resistor i put in at the sending unit--didnt work, but then
i put it behind the gas gauge between signal and ground where the grid stuff is and plugged the cluster in...it worked. it showed a lil less than half..

anyone know why at the gauge, the resistor trick worked, but at the sending unit it didnt?

any information or past experiences would be appreciated as this is a big problem...as i dont want my ford to ''Found On Road Dead''!
