Advantage ecoboost.

While in this case i failed to see that it was a vert (and while i like them, i wouldn't want one again), i have little faith in them in any type of drag race unless pretty heavily modified.

But as far as crunching power to weight numbers, for years foxes have been been defying the power to weight logic.

Using myself for an example, running 13.6 (and i was far from the quickest in my group with basic bolt ons) with no real parts, lets say 215rwhp, the same ecoboost car should have mopped the floor with my timeslip. Not sure if it's the hp or torque curve or what, but the math just doesn't always pan out.
Hell, foxes outran Lt1 vettes pretty much all the time and they likely had the power to weight advantage.

With that said, in this particular case based on it being a vert i'll amend my original assessment that it would be much closer than people thought, it probably won't, lol.

So all Im seeing is within less than a second, will the turbo boy know to build boost? can the vert get the jump?
who is just a better driver? its apparent neither has track time.

My .02 just do it at a strip not the back streets and post up your time slips...

A basic email tune and no other changes from stock will get an Ecoboost to the low 13s. Add an exhaust and intake and they dip into the 12s.

I have a 15 Ecoboost with the Performance Package. The PP gives you 3.55 gears in place of 3.31s, larger/wider tires, improved suspension, better brakes, better cooling and more chassis stiffening.

The tune in my car has it at approximately 340 HP and 380 ft-lbs of torque. This is considered Stage 1.

And the new 16 ecoboost is 200 pounds lighter than your car too. So......that's another thing.

I'm well aware of how ecoboost engines respond to mods.
The fact of the matter is, if the car is indeed just a ford performance pack car (which i'll assume since nobody said it was tuned, unless you are the friend that is going to rape him), it's still a mid high 13 car. I'm not knocking the ecoboost, it's quick in stock form, and even quicker modified, but if this race was between on a bolt on coupe with drag radials vs a stock ecoboost on regular tires, i'd take the coupe.

15 and 16 Ecoboost weight the same because there are no differences between the two years.

You're right Dave. I reread the specs. It was a C&D review of the 2015 ecoboost that listed the curb weight as 3657. I'm guessing that they were confusing the weight of the V8 car?
Everything else I read seemed to corroborate the similar weights.

I have raced my old 04 lightning at the track many times. Ive also raced my old 07 300SRT8 many times. Yet to race the 5.0. The kid I will be running against has yet to ever race at a legit drag strip. I feel the driver mod is greatly in my favor......."It's not how you stand by your car" LOL!

Im curious to see where this ends up. UPR's 2.3L Ecoboost is in the 11s now with a stock turbo and stock bottom end. That's pretty impressive.

That would be a true statement if it wasn't totally overshadowed by the fact that he's got both launch and traction control working in his favour.

Where the fox owner has to rely on several factors including drivers skill to get away from the line cleanly, this kid only need plant his foot and let the computer take care of the rest to do the same.

Nostalgia? Why do people restore 60's Muscle cars when most make a ton of noise but aren't that much quicker than a Nissan Maxima.

I like how the Fox Mustang fits me, and how the computer is not a black box, and is not reporting to OnStar or the insurance company how and where I drive. Such info, especially without knowing why I stepped on it, is no one else's business. Except for ABS and EFI, I am suspicious of any computer in my car. And thanks to Snowden, even this phone is under my suspicion.

I HATE traction control in a Merc I have. A little wheel slip, and it pulls way too much power and causes a big bog. It is enough to have almost caused accidents, and it does not help on icy days when you try to get moving. I want to put a limited slip diff. in it. Then I want to program the traction control system to be off unless the cruse control is on or if I push the button to turn it on.

Good luck in your race. I hope your driving skills make up for the power to weight ratio.
