I have a stock 92 AOD gt, my best e.t. was 9.74 @ 73 mph 2.24 60ft. Im not too sure how well that is.I have just put an 0/r h pipe with flowmaster cat back and before I run it again I want to rebuild the rear end. I was thinking moser 28 spline axels new track lock (one wheel peels) and 4.10s. It is a daily driver so do I really need the 31s with the unit? I am only trying to get it in mid 7s for now, Can someone lead me to some kits for all of this?

You need to work on the 60ft time before you do any changes. Is there anything wrong with the rear now? Are you running stock tires or drag radials and what size? What kind of burnout are you doing. What gears are you running now. What is your launch rpm. The best thing you can do is invest in a good set of drag radials.

A couple of free/cheap things that you can do to lower times are
bump the timing,
remove the serpentine belt or bypass the smog and a/c -AT THE TRACK ONLY
Remove all the junk from the back of the car- tire- jack, tools, etc
bump up the air in the front tires and lower the air in the rear
Ice down the intake before and after runs
hose down the radiator if possible after runs with the engine running
You can remove the front stock tires and replace them with spare donuts AGAIN AT THE TRACK ONLY
IMO do NOT do the 1D1 shuffle with the stock transmission or you are begging to fry it.

Google "10 minute tuneup". It was a good writeup that was done back in the day that gave some good free tips.

If you are going to replace axles and rearend, go with 31 spline units. The cost will be minimal in difference. Being that it is a stock slug, i don't think your 60fts are that far off what is expected. 4.10s will make a huge difference, and you may need a stickier tire afterwards. Also, the above mentioned tips and tricks should help out too. Joe

Experience is more important then mods in my opinion. There are other things to consider when looking at times and you shouldn't be caught up in running a 1.90 60' when its just not going to happen due to many factors (tire pressure, tire temps, composition of the tire, RPM launch, shift pattern, the temp of your motor at time of race, what the ambient air temp is, whats your altitude, whats your AFR, wind speed so on and so on.)

ok but how fast should a 100% stock AOD run with a worn track lok? And if I am going to go in and change the track lok I might well put 4.10s and everything else in once and for all, no need to keep going in.

there is nothing set in stone as far as times so get that out of your head. if you want a baseline then look for other stock-ish foxes on the track.

your right though if your gunna be in there might as well upgrade. like i said there are to many factors to just through a number out and say thats what you should run and if anyone puts a number out there they are a fool.

Thats what I know, people keep telling me more experience so I am saying what should it run for them to say I need more experience? All I want to is get the rear end taken care of before I go checking off the engine parts list. My future goal is to be in the 7s when its all done, im not in a rush I have to know how fast I want to go and how much I can afford, if I go wasting a bunch of money and it doesn't have a goal set time what am I doing? My question was about the importance of the 31 splines vs moser 28s being that its a aod.

the 31 spline will be stronger then 28 and some lockers are available in 28 spline and not 31 and some are avail able in 31 only.

answer these questions:

Whats your Attitude at the track?
How much power and torque are you putting down to the ground?
what size and composition are your tires/ what PSI?
what RPM are you launching at?

if you want a rough estimate thats where we should start.

so if you were at 2000ft ASL putting 170/210 down running k105s 235/60/16 at 24 psi launching at 1200 I might say you are looking at about 2.10 60ft and a 9.5ish time.

experience in your car will cut times down to a point if all other thing stay consistent.

Why not just go with the 31sp axles. Always better to over build it instead of under doing it. IMO. If you're going to race it you'll quickly find the weak spots. Even with an aod. Def go with 4.10s get some sticky tires, work on the susp, and practice, practice, practice! And have fun!

Hate to say it but youre gonna need a bit more than this stuff to get mid 7s. The gears will definitly helf shave a couple tenths and will feel way more badass on the buttdyno! I say go for it gotta start somewhere and thats a good place.

So you basically have a 15.2 second car and you think those mods are going to create a mid 12 second car. Good luck with that.

Oh yeah. You will def have to make more power to get into the 7's. but you probably knew that. Good luck.

......7s is the goal as in a' point to reach. The thread was about the importance of the 28sVS THE 31S BEING THAT IT IS AN AOD. like I said before"All I want to is get the rear end taken care of before I go checking off the engine/transmission parts list". If i don't know how fast I want to go and how much I can afford what Is the point? My track lok is worn, so while im in there I might as well get it done once and for all. I never said I want to rebuild the rear end SO I CAN GET into the 7s, if i would have said I want to rebuild the rear end with 4.10s what would be asked next?"how fast are you trying to go and much can you spend?" right? that's why I said it that way,my grandma knows that it takes more than that.

again..7s is the goal as in a point to reach not now. if I said I wanted to do a rear end re build everyone would want to know how fast I want to go..that's why I said that ahead of time.

Im not a slow leak to racing its just my first fox body. my brother had pretty stout foxes in the late 90s early 2000s but I was only 9 or 10 years old he recently had a n/a 2000 gt and he drove it from about a hr away on pump gas and it ran 7.90s. he now has a 03 cobra, I dont know his name on this form but if I am going to run him in the future why ask him everything for him to know what I got?

I hear you. All I'm saying is build it to the point where you don't have to worry about it and concentrate on the rest of your build. You might end up exceeding your initial build ideas anyway. You never know how fast you end up going. Good foundation and all that...
