Has anyone seen the differances between the older FMS cobra intakes and the new ones FRPP sells? The guys selling the older FMS models on ebay talk serious trash about the quality of the newer ones and was wondering if they are really as bad as they make them out to be. Thanks

Well if you dont mind doing a little work to the intake before you put it on...

I first heard that the FMS Cobra intake sucked alot of oil through the PCV. And someone told me to call Ford and they would send me a new and bigger baffle. So I did that. Then I was trying to put new sensors in the lower intake. Nothing was threading in right. There was a ton of casting material in the threads. So I had to buy a pipe tap set and clean out the threads... I was surprised how many metal shavings came out.

But other than that it looks decent. Oh and it doesnt come with any instructions. And you will need to buy a few bolts.

Thanks for the replys. I don't mind having to chase some threads and replace some bolts, but I don't want to go through all the work of installing it to find it causing the engine to burn oil. What can be done to prevent this? Does ford sell a different baffle? Whould anyone recommend a explorer intake over the cobra. What year is a direct bolt on? I know some of them didn't come with the egr passage or the ACT sensor hole. Thanks

If you call FRP they will send you a new baffle for free.

I personally havent installed the intake yet so I dont know if it will suck a bunch of oil or not.

In reality the Cobra intake uses the stock HO Intake baffle. At the least go on 50resto.com and order their 3 piece PCV Valve/Screen/Grommet combo for $20.

I was wondering if the people that are sucking up oil are using the smaller baffle and NO screen. To me, it seems like even without a baffle, oil shouldn't get past that screen.

I have an original Cobra intake I'm putting on the car this winter along with my head swap. It has the smaller (original) baffle and I'm still debating whether or not to switch it out. I already have a new screen, grommet, and PCV installed.
