I was interested in buying a 93 cobra computer, but do i have to run the cobra mass air meter or can I still use my C&L 73 mm with 24lbs calibration tube to go with the 24lbs injectors.

The 93 Cobra MAF is its own animal.

I've always wondered how the aftermarket MAF's skewed signal would act on the Cobra ECM. Most aftermarket meters are meant to be used with a ECM that uses 19lb injectors.

Regardless the MAF tranfer curve would be different, and you would wind up with drivability issues. If I'm correct, the only way to use an aftermarket meter on the cobra ECM would be with some sort of tuner.

The cobra (X3Z) tune would have the correct transfer for the cobra MAF obviously, but your cnl could be "recalibrated" (and I use the term in the most general way humanly possible) by swapping the sample tube.

Now that being said, why would you want an X3Z tune over your current one?

Once you get the cobra comp and then start adding more go fast goodies, you'll need a custom tune anyhow... so why not just custom tune your current computer instead?

Just curious...

(the cobra tune is not any more agressive than the normal one, just slightly different to allow for the milder cam, 65mm tb and 24lb injectors... common misconception)

You would also need to use the MAS sensor (just the sensor, not the housing), in the C&L housing.
Both the sample tube and the sensor would need to be changed if switching from A9* to X3Z...

Good thoughts right there....

My opinion,
The X3Z is a great option when 24's are the full extent of modifications the car will recieve. If there are future plans for the car that will require injector changes, then you may as well just keep the A9* and move to a custom tuner now...

One of the advantages of the X3Z is that you can have a stock Ford tune, while running 24's.
If you run a C&L with the X3Z, then you are introducing some error into the tune. If it were me, I would use the stock 93 Cobra MAF with the X3Z, not the C&L...

Check the C&L calibration page....
