93 Feature Mustang Question!!!

I have a 93' white vibrant special edition and need to change the front coil springs....I found that the front bearings were out of a GT... Wondering if the springs are GT or LX.. Parts places have no clue.. Any idea? The parts for the GT and LX are indeed different...

I would think that as long as they are V8 springs youll be good to go.

Does it have the handling package?

Different wheel bearings for LX vs GT - that is news to me and lots of other folks in here. Then again, I have no idea what a vibrant special edition is though.

Not sure if it has the handling option. Quite frankly, it's handling like ass since I have a dead spring. But, the white vibrant special edition was also called the convertible "feature" car. 3 types were made; white, red, and yellow. See link for more info:

even though its a feature car, its still a regular mustang LX. pretty much the color combos are the only thing that are different, and the fact they were not that many made. I know in 92, their were about 2000 vibrant red special edition verts made. In 93 there were about 1500 yellow verts, with black leather, black top, and chrome ponys. Not sure how many white ones were made though.

Like 5.0Droptop said, I think the springs are the same as the GT since its a V8 car.

Well, if I can't find out I'll just go with the GT springs. The under carriage looks exactly like my 87. I just found it weird that I've been replacing standard components with GT parts and not LX.. Wheel bearings didn't fit...that caught my attention. And they made 1500 white ones in 1993. I have one of 444 manual T5's. Might me worth .50 cents more later down the road.

GT and LX springs are the same, as is the rest of the suspension and all other mechanical aspects of the car as well. If the bearings you originally tried were wrong, it was an error by the people that sold them to you or their cataloging.

Now one more thing to ponder: I am too tired to think straight, but it seems to me that verts had different springs than hardtop cars did.

If so, and the suspension is original, getting vert springs would be more important than GT vs LX springs (per se), IMHO.

Vibrant White was a nice color.

My 93 Notch is 1 of 900 something.

I have the old springs that were in mine if you want them.

"auto parts"stores always list things in special ways..very interesting sometimes. The front suspension/braking components are identical going from the LX to the GT...the only difference in the special edition version verts was the color scheme/white top/dec lid and a few other visual mods.

This is correct: The convertible springs had reduced rates to smooth out the ride for cruising purposes. Which is what the convertibles were ment for from the begining. So there are technically 3 sets of springs that should be available (thru the dealer maybe?)

1) 4 cylinder spring rates
2) Convertible spring rates
3) Hardtop V-8 spring rates

If you still have the original springs, the dealership should be able to order just the 1 spring that you need. I had a broken spring on my 93 and the dealer ordered just that one spring for me.

Thanks guys....I'm just gonna bite the bullet and see what ye old dealer wants for them... They can kiss my ass on labor though....2 hours and six pack all it takes me. Appreciate all the help!!

Dman302 is right. It is really a 4 cyl vs V8 thing not an LX vs GT thing as all the 5.0 V8 LX cars have the same basic suspension and drivetrain as the GT cars. The GTs may have slightly different springs, but I'm not sure about that. But the brakes, rotors, bearings, spindles, are the same on V8 cars, and different from the 4 cyl cars. Many parts stores assume that all LX Mustangs are 4 cyl cars and thus can give you the wrong part. Unless I'm looking for body parts, and they ask LX or GT, I just say GT to make sure I get the right part.

I think you mean 'to attempt to get the right part'.
It is worse for the 94-95's - they keep trying to give either fox or mod motor stuff (that does not fit).

are you saying the v8 and 4cyl verts use the same springs

Just say V8 hardtop springs.

Or go aftermarket. Because if you change out one spring its not going to sit the same as the old ones.
