Hey guys and gals....
Was hoping maybe someone would have run into this or have the proper information regarding it.
The victim is... 1993 Mustang GT Convertible.
The problem is...Someone backed into the passenger side of the car on the door, right where the lock cylinder and door handle is. I do not see any missing pieces or anything broken in the door panel. I ripped off the door panel and started checking over all the clips and rods. The door will open with the handle, but will not lock with the key in the lock cylinder nor by pushing down on the door lock pin itself. The power locks dont work because I need to replace the switches themselves. If the actual actuator is broke I dont think that would post a problem with manually locking the door itself. I dont have a schematic of the actual lock setup itself and cant get my hands on a Chilton or Haynes manual for a few days. I was actually hoping to complete this job or at least make the door lock before the week starts. If nothing else, then i guess just a matter of ripping the door handle off and then covering the holes in the meantime till I replace the door and shave the locks and handles on the vehicle. If anyone has run into this or knows what to or even has access to a schematic you can share with me, I would be soooooo grateful. Thanks for your time and advice in advance!
TJ

get a flashlight and look up inside the door. there is a small rod that goes from the door latch bracket to the key cylinder (and linkage from said latch bracket to the knob for the lock). they are retained with little plastic keepers - sounds like they either were broken or the latch dealie (bracket) broke itself.

good luck.

oh yeah, you can search for Jricker in here. on his site, he has a write up for door lock actuator retrofits (i highly recommend the retrofit, should you decide to fix the actuators). but the pics in the write up and his descriptions might help you piece this together.

JR is pretty good about knowing i mentioned his name and following with the link to his site.

good luck.

Yup, a bad actuator will keep a key from turning. Mine were so rusted that they finally quit working, apparently from water getting inside the door. I finally replaced them two summers ago and solved the problem.
