93 Vert. Quarter window.

My driverside quarter window make a clicking sond when u hit the button to let it down and it doesn't move at all. U have to hold the button and push it down. I was wondering if u guys think it might be that its off track or that the gear on the motor is broke or wore out. Any help would be appreciated, gettin tired of that window not goin down and its gettin good weather so I wanna start puttin my top down.

sounds like it stripped out the plastic track or the gear itself

Yea thats what I was thinkin, but I wasn't sure. Is there a way to get to that gear without takin the backseat out and panel off?

the nice thing is is that it will take you all of 5-10 mins to get them out..the bottom of the seat you just push in and pull up...it will slide right out..the top of it has two bolts on the bottom that were umm 5/8 i believe but dont quote me on that then there is i screw in the back and 2 in the front if i remember right..then pull switch cover off and pull the panel towards the front end of the car and then out...very simple

while your at it you mit as well check the other side.

yeah its pretty stright foward..you will have easy access to your top motor while you have them out so check that out to..

yup..put your hands in front of where this picture shows...push it foward..then pull the front up and pull it out...push and pull up..easy to do...

And once you have the motor out, it takes 2 mins to pull the cover off and inspect the gears. The two most likely scenarios are that the bushings themselves took a dump, or that the race split. If it's the latter, what often happens is the motor makes noise but the window won't move. It's easier for the race to split than it is for the output shaft to drive the window upwards, so it takes the path of least resistance.

not meaning to highjack this thread... I just got 4 new motors.. but want to fix problems with the window before installing them cause I don't want to blow the motors... convertible too.. and my windows don't line up right and can easily wiggle around.... any advice on making these things work right... is it easy to get at the gear etc.??? is there any kits anyone knows off... I think there are guides or something that may be shot.. and I need new conv. weather stripping too.. damn these window problems can be a pain!!!

have had the seats out and took the original motors apart.. but I think it could be a track/gear or guide problem

Tell me about it. Thats 1 of the reasons I'm gonna be gettin ride of my vert shortyly and gettin a notch or hatch.

BTW, seat removal isnt necessary but it's a lot easier (esp to reach that PITA screw in the top of the panel - the head faces the side of the seat back). I leave my seats in - you just have to scoochy the panel creatively to get it in and out.

You can get gear kits for the fronts. Folks have posted info for the rears before but something didnt seem right to my peabrain about what was posted.

There are a couple of guides that go up and down the central rod deal in the door. If the rubber wears out (and it does), the window glass gets play in it. To properly replace the guides isnt a fun proposition. Once you have the motor disconnected and removed, it makes it easier to find sources of slop IMHO.
