93gt, 58cc heads, 10 psi... Am I retarded?

More than likely going to take race gas to be safe. Assuming everything else on your car is stock (bore, ect.) then your static compression ratio is 9.42:1. With 10psi that makes your effictive compression ratio right about 16.0:1. My car has 8.2:1 compression and I've run it at 15psi. My effective compression ratio is about 16.7:1, but you gotta factor in that I have a very effecient intercooler and I use 104 unleaded at that boost pressure. So yes it will work but it may not be a daily driver at 10 psi.
 
Talk to a tuner before making any decisions. I know some of the modular folks using almost 25-30psi of boost on nearly stock Cobra engines...BUT not a stock computer calibration, and of course, a lot more fuel delivery. Yes, a higher octane fuel may be advantageous, but doesn't mean you can't run 9-12psi with your 58cc heads. I think most folks would agree that if you are going to run boost, it's best to have it tuned by a professional using a laptop, dyno, and a wide-band O2 sensor. A "safe", "conservative" tune may allow you to run at higher boost levels using pump gas. Just for giggles, give Alternative Auto Performance a call, and get their thoughts on the best way to go about it.

FWIW, my friend Cory (swinerton on corral) os stock 65k short block with tfs heads,stageI cam, and track heat with a pullied "S" trim made 508/488 at the wheels. It blew head gaskets, at 13psi. Figure pullied down to 8psi you should be "safe" with a good tune. Keep us posted, did you get a polished one? Aftercooler would help too.

I talked to someone who had AFR 165's and a Novi 1000 with stock pulley who made like 430whp. I think that was with 7psi or so. I think you will be fine with 8psi. You also have hypereautic pistons though, so that makes it more dangerous. Good luck!
 
Hyperutectic pistons can handle the boost as long as the car is always run with a good tune, there have been many stock shortblock forced induction mustangs in the 10's, one in perticular has been as fast as 10.30's at 135+mph and had a 93 motor with hyperutectic pistons, when he did eventually split his block it did just that - no broken pistons. The problem you are going to run into is if you are going to need race gas with that much boost and compression, with an 8 psi pulley you will be fine, if it turns out that you do need race gas to run 10psi then just swap pullies and add some good fuel when you want to go faster :). Water/alkahol injection would be an excellent solution to this problem as well, but then again it might not be practical to drive it daily at that boost level if the injection system is required. Ask a reputable tuner if they think you will need race gas when running 9.5:1 compression and 10psi and go from there :) Good luck!
 
I agree, too many people think the hyper pistons will instantly turn to dust, but there are lots of blown 93+ with hypers running out there,

I will without a doubt have a nice tune put on the car before it gets and serious abuse.
With that said, Imna run it with the 10psi pulley

Good man, have you condsidered any type of fuel management system?? What about you're fuel system, what are you considering for upgrades there, rails at the minimum if you're still running stockers. Good luck Joe.
