Hello,
I am buying a 67 mustang coupe from my cousin this week. It was originaly a 4-lug 6cyl car, its had a pretty warm 351 put in with a rebuilt C-6.
Now the 4 lug has to go, but I'm stuck between trying to find an 8 or 9" rearend and just go 5 lug drum on the back.
Or
I've found an 8.8 rearend out of a 94 Crown Vic Police interceptor with disc brakes.
Of course this is a coil over rear end, but I can modify it with leaf perches to fit my suspension. The question is, is this feasable?
Has it been done (i'm sure it has) but what came of it?
I believe the Ford 9" that came with a 68 is 59.25 inch's wide flange to flange. How much wider is this disc brake rear end and is it going to make my wheels hang out from under the wheel wells (really dont want this)
I have a full set of Cragar S/S's I'm going to put on the car, they are 8x15 on the back
I've seen people take a disc brake 8.8 and swap the guts into a 9" housing, but I dont have a 9" to start with.
i'm just wondering if I'm better off putting the entire late model 8.8 rear end under the 67, or should I try finding an 8 or 9 inch that will be a direct fit.
I would love to do a disc brake conversion on the rear, I dont think the swap will be hard at all, I just want to make sure its going to look right before I buy/install it.
Thanks, Lance
