94-95 COBRA INTAKE ON 347 WOULD IT WORK???

would it work???

if not, what if it was ported.

Iam trying to put together together a 347 stroker consisting of AFR 185's, custom cam, forged internals, and 1 5/8 bbk longtubes, would this combo work. I am trying to keep the engine looking as stock as possible.

I have a similar combo in my 93 cobra the intake is ported with vic jr heads and comp282hr cam. I think that the intake is restricting it a bit but it feels great to me and looks bone stock especially with the heads painted

Port the heck out of it and get good power and 'look stock'...

The shiny AFR's may be hard to hide though

The intake will more than likely restrict you but your still going to make nice power throughout the range!

the cobra is not a bad intake but once you exceed stock displacement its better to step up to at least a typhoon or maybe a tfs track heat intake, however, I couldnt be happier with my combo

the cobra intake is great for lower end torque. that plus 347 cubes will make that a hell of a fun street ride. get the lower ported by tmoss. you can also get the upper extrude honed if you want better airflow through it.

but if you are planning on taking the car to the track alot, then you may be disappointed because the power will start to drop off too early

I was going to port it myself, but then I decided I would seen if I could have tmoss port it, How much would it cost to get it extrude honed??? personally I dont like the looks of the aftermarket intakes except a couple systemax, saleen, and the cobra,

power dies off at high rpm fine with me it extends engine life.

It will choke out the breath up top

It was not designed with 350 cubic inches in mind

I don't see how you could mod it to correctly
pass the airflow a 350 cubic inch motor will generate

If you are gonna follow that kind of reasoning
Why use 185's when you can use 165's

302 parts = 302 power.

NO it will NOT work.

347 needs a LOT of air at 5,000-6,000 rpm

You need a TrickFlow R or Holley Sys II intake
to feed the cubes of 347ci.

Dont forget to install 1 3/4 LT's so it can breathe out too.

or you'll be wondering why your power band
stopped at 5,000 rpm on the dyno.

i think it all comes down to your intended usage. street car? daily driver? race car? dyno queen? what rpm range will you be driving it in 90% of the time?

grady has a point that if you want to go with a cobra intake and expect to keep the rpms down, then 165s might be a better head for you.

I was really trying to point out that if you were gonna compromise with the intake

Why not do the same with the rest of the parts.

I am of the thinking ................
typical 302-306 parts on a 350 ci combo will work OK down low and mid range
but
after that ... you will start to suffer and the more the rpms climb ............

Daily driven street car Is what I want. Track whats that, Dyno queen I would go all out

I rarely ever get up to 5,000 anyway.

Do Yourself a Favor

If your going to pull the motor and rebuild Just do yourself a favor and ditch them (even when ported) restricted intake and manifold. For the price you cant really go wrong with a nice Trickflo Track heat upper and manifold. Just keep in your mind 1 thing that I have learned. If you Pintch Pennys You will get Pintched. Also Be aware there are oil problems with 347ci Buildup's when not using the Correct Piston Ring Setup (or the more Expensive one's) I suggest going with the 331ci if this will be also a daily driver. The Horsepower comparisons between the 2 are hardly worth the extra oil blow by.

Yes you see that kind of thing on those motors
and
The same thing on some of the crate packages Ford offered

Thats all they got to work with

They ain't gonna offer an intake made by Edelbrock, TFS or the like

If you're going to keep the rpm's below 5g's 90+% of the time the cobra will work fine (especially a ported one). I remeber Tmoss posting a dyno sheet were a stock unported cobra did damn good againt a holley systemmax intake. I think the cobra was able to stay with it up to 4500 or 5000 rpms before the holley started to pull away. *I think* the intakes were tested on was a 347 but he would know 100%.

That problem has been fixed.

It has been fixed for a long time now.

A 347 can be a reliable choice for a street car and doesn't have to burn oil
like they did when they first came out.

I do agree if one used the wrong parts ... as you pointed out ...they would
not obtain optimum results.

It looks by that last sentence ... If one went with the additional cubes ...
they are gonna have problems.

I've looked into this a lot ...
I'v seen many 347 owners who have been happy ...
Been happy for years now ...
and
Don't complain about oiling issues.

I just wanted to say ... there is another side to this issue

A nice NA street combo with a good tune can easily make 1rwhp for each
cube. This has been proven over and over. This is also with drivability
that could be used with a daily driver

Lets get real ... the bulk of 331-347 Stroked NA combos built are not
daily drivers.

Never the less ... I'll go for that additional 16rwhp and the additional
torque of the larger motor every time.

If I was gonna build a high hp forced combo ... I would most likely look
at the smaller size.
