94 Cobra clutch cable problems

I have a 94 cobra with 39,000 orig miles and replaced my factory quadrant with a steeda single hook quadrant and adjustable (at fork) cable . The first cable broke after a couple thousand miles and I replaced that one with BBK adjustable cable (same quadrant) and now this one is getting really stiff with hard pedal. After reading the forums I ordered a Ford m-4553-a302 cable and it is too short, I talked with www.bieberfever.com who told me 2 things,
1. He said i should have left my stock set up alone because the after market ones all suck for the 94-95 cobra. (figures I tossed it)
2. He told me the 94-95 cobra has a longer shaft than the GT and requires a longer cable. Is this true?

Is there a way to make the m-4553-a302 motorsport cable work without putting the factory quadrant back in?

I just want a trouble free clutch/quadrant cable set up. I wish I had never removed the stock one which was working perfect

I would get a universal cable from MM (I'd actually recommend getting their cable/quadrant and FWA kit so all the parts are known to function together correctly).

I agree with Hissin, the Maximum Motorsports firewall adjuster, clutch quadrant and cable all work wonderful. I have them on my 94 Cobra clone and they work wonderfully. From what I have read, all of the aftermarket clutch cables all tend to have a short life. The original OEM manufacturer of the Ford cables (not the current FRPP cables) are the best, which is what Maximum Motorsports supplies in their kits.

I don't understand why you were told that the aftermarket kits were bad for the 94-95 Cobra? The tranny is essentially the same for all 94-95 cars, though the Cobra has coated gears for more durability (a T5-Z as opposed to a T5).

The original setup sucks ass. I don't know who would recommend keeping it. 87 and up Mustangs came with a heavy duty cable from the factory. Almost all of the aftermarket cables, including the motorcraft one, are the original light duty cable that came in the Mustang pre 87, that is now made by an aftermarket manufacturer. The only heavy duty cable that I'm aware of is the Maximum Motorsports cable, which is made by the company that originally made it for the Mustang here in America. The cable in the Cobra is identical to the one in the GT. The Maximum Motorsports cable has to be run with a firewall adjuster. American Muscle has the best price on the Maximum Motorsports cable that I can find.

I had a BBK cable in my car for 12 years without an issue before it got full of crap and started binding up. If it gets really hard quickly, that suggests a routing problem. Any chance you routed it wrong, and it's binding up now?

I've seen many route the cable wrong and have this problem when installing a new cable.

I agree with this. Most will route the cable wrong and cause the cable to bind and ultimately the cable could break over time.

I'm running Steeda cable, fwa, and quadrant. Been a year with NO problems at all
