94 GT Cranks, no start

my 94 GT started running bad about two weeks ago. it was like it was driving with the E-Brake set, wouldnt really accelerate, and was running like it had a huge cam. i found a 2 vacuum leaks, fixed them, started it again and tried to back it up a short hill and it barely had the power to make it up the hill. once there it ran for about 1 minute, died and has not fired since. i had a mechanic that i know come out with his computer to pull the codes but he ran some tests first and decided that it was the ignition module because when a test light was on the + side of the battery the light came on when touched to the module. so i replaced the module and still have nothing, the light still comes on when touched to it. i did find a wire in the inner fender that had been rubbed bare, i wrapped it in electrical tape, still had the problem. im wondering if there is something else grounding out the ignition module? the car has a 95 cobra intake, a 255 LPH fuel pump, adjustable regulator, 24 LB injectors, SCT chip tuned by brenspeed, cold air. i just put a new richporter distributor in, a new coil at the same time, also have new plugs and wires. i have checked for fuel pressure which is all good...

The distributor and coil went in in july, I have tried pulling the chip and it still does not fire. I do not know if the injectors are firing, I will have to check that. Also I know that there is no spark coming out of the coil, so anything before the coil that I should check?

Everything above and clean/check the MAF sensor.

I have NEVER had a bad MAF be the cause of a no-start issue in all the years I've owned these cars. Hell, a Mustang will run and drive without a MAF even plugged in.

If it was running and with no further modifications it's not anymore, something has gone bad or lost connection. You need to verify that your fuel pump is priming, the injectors are pulsing and that you are getting spark. These are easy tests that will usually point you in the right direction when it comes to no-start issues.

My reply was more directed at his opening sentence.

Whether there is a link between the drive-ability issue and the no start issue remains to be determined.

If you call the manufacturer for the ignition coil, they should be able to give you the specs on it. You can check it with a simple multimeter. The specs will tell you how much resistance there should be between the primary and secondary windings etc.

Okay here is where i am now. I know my coil, ignition module, distributor are all okay. i had a guy come out and run tests on it, he is saying i should replace the computer. his theory was that the ignition module went bad and took the computer along with it. im thinking i find someone with a 94 or 95 and borrow their computer to see if it starts with that. then i will know whats up. any thoughts?

Stupid question, but has anyone pulled codes up to this point? I don't see it mentioned anywhere in this thread. What trans do you have? That will determine which EEC you'll need. T4M0 for manual, and I believe it's UP40 for auto.

yeah we pulled the codes last night. the guy has been out twice, the first time he just conducted spark tests and check for fuel pressure (which resulted in fuel spraying all over the place) but he determinded that the ignition module was bad, didnt plug in his fancy computer to pull codes and left. i replaced the module and that fixed nothin. so when i called him and told him he needed to come back he hooked up the computer and said the next thing he would do is replace the computer so thats where i am now.

So what led him to believe the ign. module was toast? Were the injectors pulsing? Were you getting spark at the plugs? Fuel to the rail simply means the pump is priming, doesn't mean the injectors are getting the fuel to the chambers. We have to know whether you're missing spark or fuel. Once we have this information we can try to give you ideas.

Did he say why he was replacing the computer? Where did he hook up his scanner? The 5.0's have a plug under the dash but it's a dead plug and not used. The 5.0's have an OBDI system and the hookups are behind the passenger-side shock tower. The plug under the dash is only for the OBDII V6's. Ford tried to save money by using the same wiring for all 94-95 Mustangs, and they sell a ton more V6's than GT's or Cobras. So, we have a useless plug under the dash.
