I FINALLY found an SPR-ZM (03-04 cobra) rack for my '94. My question is, when switching to the new rack what fluid should I use. Normally I'd use Type F, not sure if that should change. I am wondering if the type of fluid is more dependant on the pump and not the rack. I know some of you have done this swap so hopefully you can answer this question..... Thanks!!!

i used oreilys powersteering fluid when i swapped mine. however it looked like the rack was filled with type f when i bought it

Type F ATF. That is what they recommend for the 94-95 mustangs. I used it again in my new SPR-ZM rack, I tend to think it has more to do with the Pump than the rack.....but I could be wrong. Anyways, I got the new rack installed, I tested it Saturday night and it works great. I also replaced the steering shaft with an MM shaft. The steering feels much better

They reduced the gear backlash and decreased the turns ratio. I can't find the original articles, when the 2003 Cobra was first reviewed they mentioned these improvements over the standard steering racks in the GT cars. I wanted one because I had annoying play in my steering, a dead spot at center. I found nothing really wrong with the steering components (steering shaft, rag joint, etc...). At first I ordered a reman standard rack and installed it, nothing changed...same issue. So I did some searching and found out about the 03-04 cobra racks (SPR-ZM). With the new SPR-ZM rack and the MM steering shaft my steering feels perfect.
I found mine at my local Ford Dealer, I was really surprised to find one. I searched the internet and never found a real one, they have gotten rare. Actually I thought I had found one on the net and I ordered it through rackpinionwhse.com, but they tried to pull a fast one and sent me a different rack....I think they do this on purpose. They substituted the ZM rack with a ZK rack and they still charged me for the ZM rack. I called them and found they don't even carry the ZM rack..... On the phone they tried to argue with me about how the ZK rack would fit.....which of course I knew it would fit but its not what I ordered or paid for. I got my money back. You have been warned.

i ended up picking up a cobra rack from MPS off ebay. only 28k miles on it. When i called the local dealerships they said they could get them from the warehouse but it would be $270. Got this one for $200 shipped. Hopefully it comes in this week.
