95 brake booster ??

I ordered a complete 5 lug disc brake set up from a salvage yard. What I have installed so far has been good. I went to test fit the booster this weekend before I painted the engine bay and it doesn’t fit. I believe everything I received was off a 95. I am installing it on a 85. The booster hits the strut tower, the hole pattern is different as well. Did I get the wrong one? Should I have to make it fit? Or can I just use my old one with a different master cylinder?

SN95 boosters need to have the firewall slotted slightly to fit. One of the lug holes is off. Use a piece of cardboard to make a template and you will see what you need to slot.

if you do not want to modify the firewall, you need a 1993 cobra booster.

I put a 94-95 booster in my ‘88 by slotting the holes and trimming the inside two studs slightly. I managed to wiggle in in without resorting to clearancing the strut tower. It can be done

I did the same as 5L5, but I did some slight "massaging" to the middle section of the strut tower. All working good though.

I will try slotting for sure. Really don’t want have to massage the tower. It is finally ready for paint and i have everything lined up for next week to be able to spray.

Do a trial fit before the paint, I figure you want to paint that area too, then you'll know what it takes to get it in there, after paint then tape the crap out of that area and the booster to get it in the there scratch free.
Then in reality you likely won't see the scratches, if any, anyway.

I will be doing a test fit for sure, I have way too much time into the engine bay to figure it out after the fact.

It can be done without needing to hit the tower. The fact that you don’t have an engine in makes it easier.

the sn95 studs are metric. The fox is sae, so make sure you have the right nuts on hand before you install. I found out the hard way after the booster was installed

I had to replace my cobra booster after about 2 years. PITA. After doing it once you will dread pulling it out and doing it again. There's a plastic spacer about 3/8ths thick between the pedal assembly bracket and the firewall. Mine moved around a little making it more difficult than it had to be.

That pedal box spacer frequently breaks too. MM makes an aluminum replacement

I will check that out. I have nothing have in the engine bay and dash is out so it should be easier at 5his point.

Should be a breeze with the dash out. Even with the day in place it’s not bad once you realize a 24” extension has a straight shot in at all 4 nuts

Ok so made a template and ground the holes. The studs line up but it still won’t go without hitting. So since I struggle with metal work I am going to go back with what I had. Just have to figure out what master cylinder to use and brake lines.

Right where the booster is hitting, you just need a whack or two on the strut tower to slip it by. You won't even notice it after its done. That's all I did.

Its on the back corner of the strut tower, when everything else is in the engine bay you will never see it.

I agree. Soft dead blow with cardboard in between will get that pushed in enough to clear.

Ok I am a special kind of stupid. I worked on the car for about 2 hours last night. Grabbed the dead blow 300 times and can’t do it. I know when I hit it the metal is going to move and I just have too much time in filling and sanding everything smooth and once the metal moves I will have to start over. Yes as I said I know I am special that way.

so with that being said I did order a 93 cobra booster. I will have to change my plans to spray but I would rather do that than be all goofed up on the body work.

Well got the 93 booster and it was the same size as the 95. So I just went at it. It was a little more than a wack or 2. But got it fitted had the last 3 nights to smooth it out and had good weather to spray today.
