Ok you know the drill - my mach 460's cd slave unit works... when it wants to.. What do I do? I dont want to put a new system in this car. Does anyone know what the problem is? can it be fixed or where can I buy a refurbished/new unit.
Thanks

Good luck. Mine did the same thing. Took it to Tweeter (audio store) and talked to the tech. I could replace with an upgraded aftermarket unit and delete the separate cd/radio; but the catch was the wiring. He quoted about $160 just for rewiring to accept a new unit. The other option was to bring it to Ford. They will send it back for "refurbishing". No matter what the problem was they charged a flat $250. Somebody on the boards may be able to provide some insight to what rewiring is needed.

If you dont want to spend a lot of money, then buy a good unit off Ebay. People are selling those head units all the time. When my CD finally craps, Im going to do that because its already screwing up every once in awhile. You dont really need to upgrade those things unless your really a sound expert. I've played with stereos myself but when I bought my 95 GT for my wife, I was really impressed with the sound, so I'm leaving it alone aside from the jacked up CD player.

So soes anybody know if I get a used one out of a 96-98 in a yard will it have the same problem? I know I did it with a 95 once and they are all the same. I think it was a bug that they worked out in later CD units.

common problem and the only fix i would consider is swapping in an aftermarket head unit. if you really want to fix you stock cd player i think there is an old thread that explains how. do a search for mach460 or something.
