Hey folks,

Noticed the temp was rising the other day. Typical ac cutting off and blowing hot air while the temp rises quickly, shut it down before it got to hot, then the radiator overflowed.

I let it cool down, topped off the overflow tank, and drove it to work (2 miles away)with the ac off. temp started to rise to middle of gauge. Got out and checked the fan, not on. Car still running, turned the ac on and temp continued to rise. No fan.

This evening:
-checked the 60 cb under the hood. not blown
-pulled the connector off the coolant temp sensor and jumped it, with the ignition on, heat/ac switch off on the dash. No fan.
-pulled the connector off the fan and placed a jumper (14 gauge wire) to ground it. placed a jumper to the + battery from the middle connector out of the 3 (low or high fan speed i'm not sure). Got a slight sizzle on the terminal... and a slight hum from the fan, hum and sizzle stops within 1 second. fan doesn't work.

So it seems its the fan. But the sizzle concerned me, because that hasn't happened to me before when running some of these tests. So before I order the fan, thoughts? The motor and all electronics are stock.

Don't jump the ECT.

If powering the fan with jumper wires, use fused 10 AWG [minimum] for the testing.

When the car was at temp (where the low or high speed fan should have been on), did you test the wiring to the fan connector?

The fan motor came in this afternoon. R2 the part and all seems well. I started it up and placed the ac on, fan came right on. Took it for a test drive and the temp stayed in the middle of the gauge, same with the ac on. I hope it holds...

I'll keep in mind the 10ga and your other suggestions if I encounter this again. Thank you guys, your responses gave me confidence on the track I was going.
