1995 Mustang Gt 302 5 speed buckle up because this is my first Mustang and I’m a dip
I bought the car a couple months ago I don’t know a whole lot about it. But I’ll try to list what I do know.
Bbk cold air intake
Bbk long tubes
Bbk 75mm tb (I know it’s way too large)
Bbk maf (unsure of size) calibrated for 24# injectors
Gt40p heads (no it doesn’t have the gt40 intake -.-)
24# injectors
Has egr still
3.73 gears
Msd pro billet distributor with accel coil

When I first got it I had zero issues with it and it drove amazing check engine light would occasionally pop up in 5th gear but never affected drivability. It ran 2400rpm ish cruising at freeway speeds and I noticed higher temps but it never overheated. I have a slight tick from a header gasket on the driver side but it chattered pretty significantly from the passenger side in higher rpm under load it was most noticeable in 3rd gear. I was told that was an exhaust hanger but I’m realizing now it probably isn’t.
I haven’t been able to try too much with it because I prefer diagnostics over loading the parts cannon.
First thing I did was spark plugs when it start bucking under load it. I didn’t really notice misfiring at first just bucking/shuddering under load. Then I tried warranty swapping the tps because old owner gave me his number for the warranty and no change.
Timing was bouncing around when I had spout disconnected so I scoped cylinder 1 and compared tdc to the tdc mark on the pulley and it was dead nuts so pulley is fine. Pulled the distributor and the pip sensor (I believe) was loose and touching the gear, I wedged it back up with a piece of cardboard to see if it would help and voila timing stopped jumping around. Ordered a cardone replacement and got a different distributor than what was pictured but still installed it because why not and had a slight intermittent misfire at idle and I could unplug spark plugs I believe 4 and 8 and it wouldn’t change my idle at all. Put the junk pro billet back in and it idles way better no intermittent misfires but it backfires sometimes when you rev it up and it backfired a few times on start up. Today I got tired of guessing and unhooked the battery for 15 minutes to reset computer, did idle learn procedure from cold, warmed it up then checked codes and got
Koeo
111 and 212
Koer
412
172
136
I’m still lost I found a video of someone’s 302 on here clacking the same way mine does if you adjust the timing too far out. Multiple commenters said valve springs were the culprit and that could explain my higher temps on the highway if they were floating. I guess my main question is do I try another distributor because it’s safe to assume mine is toast and is it possible when my pip sensor went out that it wore out the valve springs? P.s. be gentle this is my first time working on one of these except changing engine mounts and a transmission mount on a 94 I am by all means a noob.
