95 GT or 05 civic? a little help plz...

ok well I just started college and I have a bit of money to get a much needed car now and I found a 95 Black Vert GT 5-speed, and an 05 civic lx now im kind of torn between two worlds. A part of me is saying get the civic its more reliable and another part is saying get the GT **** everything else. LOL but what im worried about is the reliability of the GT. Its got 118,000 on it and im scheduled to test drive it wednesday but my g/f is telling me its a bad idea to get a car that im going to have to fix because it might break down quick, and well getting an unbiased as possible answer, what do you guys think? Its going to stay stock because i cant afford anything buy maintenance on a car and I need a good reliable car. So yea what do you think?

Honda's are good cars, reliable and all, but if a good running 5.0 has been cared for much, I would put my money on it over a honda. You may get better gas mileage in the honda, but I said F**K gas mileage a while back. I'm not putting around to save bucks, I'm driving for pleasure. I've put the car through hell recently, and it went through 2 women drivers before me, and both drove it hard but well kept, and the thing still keeps on going. Nothing would beat dropping the top in a nice stang with a good sound.

it really depends on what you want in a car... this is like comparing apples to rasins. the civic is going to be cheaper to maintain in the long run... everything from gas to maintenance will be cheaper than the GT. Will the GT be more fun? probably, but you can also mod a civic to be a fun little monster. Might not be a drag winner but it'll sure be fun on an autoX course.

I agree - we need more info on how the car will be used. If you will live on campus and the car will sit and rot, I honestly would likely recommend the little econobox. It blends in, doesnt have an cloth top, and shouldnt have issues like parasitic battery draws, etc.

I think it will come down to how much you need that stang sitting in the parking lot. If you don't care what car sits there, I'd drive the almost brand new e-box.

The 05 honda (all hondas) are well built and reliable as hell....but like any thing they all brake down time to time. I would get the honda if you wanted to sell it in a year or 2 because the resale value is stupid high on those cars. Then buy a mustang.....or just buy the mustang now and never look back. They are proven to be a reliable car as well.

If you do get the honda just don't turn into a ricer lol

we have a daily driven 95GT with 175000 ,hardly had to fix anything, the thing just runs , brakes wheel bearings tires batt, i just put an alternator on it but the old one worked fine, just trying to save trouble, dont be anti American, any thing we have put on the GT a Honda would have needed it too by now

I dont know man its a hard decision, and no the car wont just sit because I have my own appartment. I dont live on campus, so i basically drive the average 3k 3months 12k 1 year. I dont know guys, i know its not the same as a 6 and I would love another mustang but im just worried that it might not be the right decision, but well i might consider the idea that Roland69 gave me and get the honda then sell it in 2 years and get a mustang then because by that time I will have a much better flow of cash so that seems like a good idea. And trust me, I am as anti rice as they come. The only thing done to the honda if i end up getting it will be limo tints and nothing else. So lets see tomorrow the sales manager is going to give me my employee price and then that will be what i make my decision on, Ill let you guys know, who knows maybe ill get some expected money earlier then i can do both. Hehe.

Do you really want a car payment through college.....or do you want to maintain an older (yet easier) car??

I dunno, it's a gamble really. You could buy the civic and still have problems. Hondas are known to be reliables, but i have friends with acuras that have nothing by trans problems.

I drove my 5.0 through high school and college, was stone reliable.

Here is the thing. The bottom line, you can ask any veteran in automotive modding, weather it's for the roadcourse, dragstrip, mudhole, or rock crawling, your project should not be your primary transportation.

If you leave the Mustang mostly stock, and it is in good shape now, and you keep it in shape, and don't beat on it too much and kept mild, you won't have too much a problem. BUT, once you start putting down power, and altering the parts, your going to have issues, I promise.

A beater for a daily driver isn't a good idea either. Some have luck, most do not. Maby you should get a reliable car, and then buy the hot-rod afterwards. I know it sucks.

Personally it depends. The Civic is a better choice in my opinion for your set up. Better gas mileage, a lot less miles so the upkeep will be easier and cheaper, and you wont be tempted to spend money on it.

As far as what I would do, I would get the Mustang, if I were you, I would get the Civic!
