I have noticed that a lot of people recommend getting the intake and heads off of ford explorers as opposed to buying the gt40 parts. Supposedly they are virtually the same. My question is, what year explorers or is it any v8 explorer regardless of model year?
The Explorer/Mountaineer used GT40's (same as the Cobra) until about mid '97, where they switched to the GT40P heads. To my knowledge, the intake was the same on all of the 5.0 engines. The only catch is that the valvetrain (springs) were different on the Cobra versus the Explorer, from what I've read.
