95 GT Wont idle

I just did a gt40 intake swap. I drove the car for a bit got it to running temperature then parked it for a week. I tried firing it up yesterday and now the car does not idle, except when I hold on the gas. It smells like it is running extremely rich. Also the electric fan is running non stop now. I do not have a code tester and I am miles from anyone who does.

I did not really do much other than an intake swap and some cleaning up. I did however clean out the distributor with some electrical parts cleaner before I drove it last time. There was a large amount of carbon inside the distributor. But it drove fine afterwards.

Any ideas on what could be causing this??

Moved to 94-95 Tech.

Sounds like it could have a pretty nasty vacuum leak somewhere, but it could also be something related to the distributor. How's it look under the cap now? Anything visibly wet from the electrical parts cleaner not totally evaporating before you tossed the cap back on?

It does not appear to be a vacuum leak. I sprayed the whole top end with starter fluid and did not even get a hic-up. Could it be the distributor?? The injectors are working the cylinders are getting fuel. There is no ping or knock, even when I throttle it, however it does backfire. To be honest it really acts like a car with spark plug wires switched.

Any ideas?

Did intake swap, drove car and parked it, now it wont idle...help!!

I did a GT40-explorer intake swap. Drove the car for a bit got it to running temperature, reset the timing and parked the car for a week. I went to fire it up and now the car is barely idling, stalls out, and acts like its misfiring when I hold on the throttle. The car ran good and drove the last time I fired it up.

I checked for vacuum leaks, there is none. The CE light is on now, but I do not currently have a scanner to pull codes. Any ideas on what might be causing this??

Thanks

I would recheck your vaccum lines and make sure all mating parts mate right. Sure sounds like it would be a vaccum. Are your lines cracked or weathered? How did you like the intake so far, other than the obvious. I picked up some GT40P heads and am looking for a cheap intake and switch them both over at once.

all the vacuum lines were replaced or repaired as I went a long.
The GT 40 intake is great....definately more pull about 2000rpm, a little loss on the low end, but no big deal.

This is just really odd.....the more throttle I give the car the worse the timing is. It is running really rich.

I pulled and re did the spark plug wires...no change

Sounds like unmetered air is going into your motor take starter fluid or carb cleaner spray around when if it picks up ide you have a leak and found it.
Re-tourqe you intake bolts some may backed off.

I just remembered that I thoroughly cleaned the engine with simple green and hose last time I drove it. I was cleaning up after the mess I made with the coolant hoses going to and from the heater core.

Is there a chance I did something to sensor on the lower part of the engine??

ok get this crap.......I found out the issue.

While I was working on my car my 3 year old daughter was playing inside the car. Some dumb-arse put in some kinda of security switch on a cable and tucked it up in the glove box. She was playing with it and changed the settings on it......

Anyways...got her up and running earlier. She is spitting out a 511 code.

Gotta figure out to how fix that now :/

Thanks for the advice..
