95 Mustang GTS (pricing)

k i htink i asked this once in another thread but i couldnt find the thread (didnt remember the tittle of it and going thread by thread reading each post is kinda hard) so ill ask it again what is a GTS (sorry i know its sounds stupid) i have never seen one of this cars aruond are tehy jsut like a special edition GT? is it like a cobra but named GTS? what years where this cars made? why are they so rare?
I do apologize but I seriously have never seen one and if i have I probably jsut thought it was another regular old stang

The Mustang GTS- When less is really more!

Mustang enthusiasts are familiar with the SN-95 Mustang Cobra and the speciality vehicles produced by Saleen, Steeda, Roush and a few others. Some are even aware of the turbocharged 4 cylinder SVO Mustang's of the mid 80's. True rarity of these cars is not dictated by how many people are aware of their existence or how much money is needed to put one into an owners garage. Rarity is based on uniqueness and production numbers. The Mustang GTS is a prime example of these qualities.

What exactly is a Mustang GTS? To make it simple, think of it as a throwback to the old Mustang LX's of the pre-SN-95 era. GTS' came standard with the basic equipment that made a Mustang a GT. This included the HO 302cid pushrod V-8 powerplant, Borg-Warner T-5 manual transmission and a Traction-Lok axle. Obvious external characteristics of a GTS are the absence of a rear decklid spoiler, lack of fog lamps in the front airdam and 16"x7" 5 spoke SN-95 "waffle" pony rims. Factory original GTS' will have the "Mustang GT" logo embossed on the rear bumper cover, as is the case on standard GT's, and "Mustang GT" badging on the front fenders. Dual 2.25" stainless steel tail pipes exit the back.

Inside the passenger compartment the GTS Mustang shares the same amenities as the base V-6 Mustang. Seats are cloth and only the drivers side, 4-way power adjustable is an option. Windows and door locks are manual. Only the driver and passenger side mirrors are powered. Air conditioning and an AM/FM stereo cassette player are standard. Visor mirrors are non-illuminated, as opposed to illuminated like the GT and convertible Mustang's. The instrument pod is the only interior amenity borrowed from the GT (7000rpm redline tach, 150mph speedometer, fuel, volt, oil, and temp gauges.)
As a side note, all options on V6 models were also available on the GTS. These options are easily broken down into two categories. Package Group 1 consisted of power windows, door locks and remote decklid release(standard on GT and convertible.) Group 2 consisted of cruise control, dual illuminated visor mirrors (standard on GT and convertible) and AM/FM stereo cassette player with premium sound. 4-wheel antilock brakes, an AODE transmission*, and remote keyless entry* were also options. Customers were able to order GTS' from the factory with as little or as many options as they wanted. Options were also available at the dealer, on request of the purchaser.
Ford did away with the GTS designation in 1996, with 1995 being the only year a true GTS model existed, replacing it with the 248A option package, which deleted many things from the car and made it comperable to the GTS. This package continued to be offered until the end of the 1998 model year. As of late, Ford does not plan to offer a stripped version of the current Mustang GT

so if its just a very striped GT i think hte price would really depend on condition of car and milage of hte car i did a kbb.com and for private party with 80k miles (i suspect most 95s will ahve around that) is ~$4000

or if you meant the retail price of what it was worth back when it was a brand new car according to msn.com the MSRP is almost 17k man i wish i could get a new GT now in days for 17k it almost seems like free

kbb dont mean jack when people try to sell their mustangs, especially on the internet. I would guess they will want somewhere between $5000-7000. I could be wrong but i doubt it, they are highly sought after so the price will be silly compared to what its worth.

i wouldnt pay a penny more over blue book i got my GT for 5k cause blue book said that and i told the guy and he agreed, it really depends on the buyer and seller, if the seller is desprate or if the buyer is desprate, i wasent to desprate since theres a lot of stangs for sale around bay area, but the guy must have been teh car had been for sale for 5 months, lucky for me....
idk about buying over internet i guess im the kind of guy tha like to test drive, "kick the tires", and pick about every little thing in hopes of cheaper price

You are new at stangs, yes?
You just said GT, go and try to buy a GTS as if you were going to right now. Its not going to be like buying one of a million gt's. there were very few gts's made. Look around, you will see what im talking about. It was a limited run one year model, only 6,370 were ever sold to the public. Look up the numbers for a GT, way more. you dont find them everyday in good shape. GT's are a dime a dozen

very true indeed
but GTS? vs GT same thing basically same engine same emblems same every thing just less options if i read correctly i guess i jsut dont see the point of a GTS i like power windows, power seats, power every thing i guess it would save you all those 30 pounds of weight but idk any other point, but if u like them then by all means do it man, I plan to do mods to my car which 80% of the ppl here would call "RICE" but thas ok if i like em, an i dont care the cost either if i like it, with that said good luck finding one try craigslist.com they have quite a bit of cars listed

i still dont understand why it would cost more than a GT if its so to say "originaly cheaper" than a GT

as for the question I am new to stangs I guess I am dont know much about cars but enough to pretend like a do lol...

collectibillity is a big deal on any limited edition automobile. ten or more years from now, it may be a cool piece to have under a car cover in a garage somewhere. so... you will pay more

maybe.... i get your point, but i would understand it on car where only 300 or so where made like the Type R (i think it was around 300 not sure) and the engine was different from every other mustang from that time (5.4 vs 4.6) and i belive a 2 seater (dont qoute me on that)

but the mustang has been one of the best selling auto's of all time. even its limited production run vehicles are a little higher than your "300" it is still somewhat of a collector once all the 17 year olds have wrapped half of them around trees or just plain beat them to hell. very few of them will escape unscathed.

lol ironicaly enough im 17, and i can tell you wrapping them around a tree isnt one of our priorities but if it was i dont think id do it in stang (not the highest saftey rating on chrashes) ....lol


same goes for teh 300 made once teh 16 yo finish "wrapping them" around trees there will be less thus making there price even more

Hey thats why they are called accidents... nobody expects to have them but statistics dont lie when viewed properly, thats why your insurance is probably pretty high. Mine is less than half what it was at your age, and im not even married. Im 25 by the way and i have seen more wrecked mustangs then i care to think about right now. they have gotten better the bigger they get, but it is still IMO a squirly car.

I bought my GTS 10k CND WITH A\C, electric mirrors and cruise control... No leater seats\fogs\power doors-windows.

My GTS came with Pwr doors and windows. The only options it was missing was cruise control and rear window defrost.
It is cool though to have a car that is 1 of 96 vs 1 of 2000+. Chances are in ten years the GTS will be worth more then a standard production GT. Only time will tell.

I reciently saw a 1995 lazer red GTS for sale in the local paper for $4500. I could have kicked my self for mot getting it. I didnt get it because it had 125K miles. So what did I end up fetting? a 1994 GT with 134K miles.

I wouldnt go that far. GT's are plentiful, you can mod them and not feel guilty about it. Add more power, you wont notice the A/C or door lock weight and all that. no big deal if you ask me
