Hello, I own a 95 mustang GT Automatic it has some bolt-ons. GT40 intake, full exhaust, underdrive pullies. Last week when i got off of work i was taking off to drive home, and noticed the car acting sluggish. I stopped at a light, took off normal, and could tell it was taking off in second gear, it wouldnt really go over 2k rpm until i was at about 25-30mph. So I get close to my house, and stop at a stop sign, put it in 1st gear manually and it just revved, it barely inched up a little, felt as if the front brakes were locked stopping the car from going, i didnt try to take off hard, just a normal take off and it wouldnt go. I can definately feel it's taking off in second gear instead of first. Can anyone help me? Was thinking of a rebuild, buying a whole transmission. Wondering if first gear went out completely, or if it could be something else. Would a transmission fluid/filter change be any help? Thanks guys

Apparently my ex-husband made that mistake.

Welcome to Stangnet. Sounds like it's too late for a filter change. I think you have something seriously wrong with that transmission. What's up with the user name? Is this like a cry for help or something?

Well, dropping the transmission pan will tell you if you stripped something out - you'll find metal shavings (and likely pieces) in the tranny pan. But I agree with Kurt - it's too late to simply change the fluid.

id have to agree with Kurt and Matt. it happens! take it from me whos going on his 3rd AODE, if you're going to rebuild have it rebuilt right! i was sort of in the same boat as you as my first tranny went, just much worse. all i had left in the transmission was park. luckily, the night before i was able to drive home and back the car in with it slipping and that was the end of it.

i took the one i had rebuilt to a tech school around here, worst mistake i ever made HOWEVER i did what was affordable at the time. second time around, im spending the money correctly. using nothing but Alto parts, cooler and deep pan.

what am i saying? i think its time for a rebuild my friend. good luck! do you have a DD aside from the stang? PITA to find rides back and forth to work, ive been that guy!

Yep, welcome to the world of AOD and AODE. Get yourself a good rebuild, and add an aftermarket cooler to that bad boy, the stock cooler sucks.

ok. here is what i have. auto AODE w/cooler, just started acting like it was slipping last week, now i have reverse only no drives, no metal shavings, new oil and filter last month, could it be the TR sensor or some other sensor. local trans shop says they have rebuilt these trans before and they still do the same thing, so i need to check all my sensors before pulling the trans for a rebuild. any ideas?

how many miles are on the trans and when was the last oil/filter change prior to your most recent one? sometimes oil changes can do that..
