I'm planning a stereo change in my 95 convertable .Iknow from installing a stereo in my 88 that ford used 2 flat plugs to connect the harness into the back of the radio. While checking a crutchfeld catalog it shows both vehicles should use the same wiring harness adapter kit,but while pulling the factory am/fm/cass i noticed one of the plugs wasnt flat but it was square also noticed a square metal box mounted on the floor below the stereo. Doe's this mean i have a premium sound system, and how does this change my install

the square plug means premium system, that metal box is the stock amplifier. what i would do here is just run new speaker wires from the deck to the speakers (which i would also get new ones) usually when you change one part of a premium system you have to change it all, h/u and speakers. you could just bypass the stock amps and use the stock speakers but i dont think itll sound too good.
