i'm debating on buying 96-98 or 99-00 GT...what do the 96-98's run all stock in 1/4 mile...5 spd? how many hp? same as 99-00? 260 hp?

also what they run in 1/4 with a few mods like 4.10's,short throw,Flowmaster AT catback, off road x pipe?

thanks...i like both body styles...just debated on which to get.

96-97 had 215 I believe and 98 had 225? 99+ has 260..

96-98 GT's run high 14's.. 99+ GT's run low 14's with some breaking into high 13's.. Theres a 45 or so RWHP difference in the cars. So the 99 GT is much faster.. A full second almost in the quarter.

If you grab a 96-98 first thing you have to do is a PI headswap.. Basically swapping 99+ 2 valve heads on.. That will get you up with the 99+ GT in terms of power..

Get the 99+. I have a 98 and if I could do it all over again that's what I would have done.

96-97 215 hp
98 225 hp
99+ 260 hp

96-98 will run high 14's (awesome driver) low to mid 15's (avearge driver) assuming all stock

99+ will run high 13's (awesome driver) low 14's (average driver) again, assuming all stock.

Trust me, if you like both body styles get the 99+, you'll be happier.

Well:

96-98 GT will be cheaper in insurance
cheaper to buy
cheaper to register
Maybe better gas mileage

99-00 GTs are faster. 1/4 differences are almost a second in most cases:

99-00 GTs are generally about 14 seconds, and 96-98s are generally about 14.9. Cutting kind of close to a 15 second car... of course, that list of mods will fix it.

It's really up to you if you'd rather spend a little more in modding with the 96-98 and have its body style, or get the 99+ which is already halfway there for you.

Note the 98 does have 225 hp, not 215.

Oh and if you really like the 96 bodystyle.. Why not try to find a low milage 94-95 GT? I'd much rather have a 5.0 then the anemic 4.6 they put into the 96-98's.. Course the headswap would fix that..
