I recently have had trouble with the ignition lock in my 96 and received a replacement as a gift. After checking to make sure that it was a computer chipped key like my stock one, I installed it. The anti-theft on my car will not let the car continue to run once it has started. Now, I cannot get the new ignition lock out of the steering column. Is there a trick or do I just need to force it out? Any help would be appreciated.

It sounds to me your new key/ignition and the security system are not communicating. First off, did you check the code on the chip in the key to make sure it was the same as the original? There are a few different codes on these chips. Furthermore, you usually have to program the new key to the car. This is a job better left to a locksmith or dealer that know how to work these things. I had a spare key cut for my Stang and the locksmith took a while to cut and program the new key for a whole $60.00. Not a simple or cheap task. Good luck.

I had to replace my ignition lock cylinder as well. The PATS has to be reprogrammed and the only people who can do that is a Ford dealer. They have all the codes. It cost me $50 and the car ran fine after that.
