I have a 96 GT I think it's stock, should i keep this and get the PI heads or should i just sell and get a 99 gt. If I keep the 96 and get the PI heads what else would i need to do the swap. I know they sell a kit with allthe gaskets but do i need to get computer done,or something eles changed/strengthend? How much money (estimate) am i looking to put into the swap+extras

First question is, how many miles are on your 96?

well, when the car is stock it is much easier to let it go without losing all the money you have put into mods. this always gives you to buy a newer faster car if you want it. if i didnt start modding the hell out of my car, id be saving for somthing like the new cobra or c5 zo6. however that is not going to happen, im in to deep in this car.

in your situation id say get the newer car if theres less miles on it. you can get one for a great price now days. in my opinion the 99 04 look better too.

I would keep the 96. The money you would spend on a 99 you could put into mods and kick the 99's ass. Go with PI heads and a set of cams.

You can get a complete PI head package (bolts, gaskets, heads, intake) for about 1200 i think and cams are about 500 you would prob look at about 80 or 90 hp gain. so you could be sitting about 300 to the wheels

i personaly like my 96 better then the newer stangs(except the 03/04 cobra) so i added the pi heads and intake etc and can run with or ahead of the 99 up gt's. Its all a matter of taste and how many miles are on your 96. If its got like 150 k then maybe look at a newer one. If its like mine 89k then you still have some life left in it. I will be upgrading to some nicer cams soon and that will keep me inline with stock non supercharged cobras.
heres a place to get a pi swap. www.steenracing.com

I know you will be able to hang with the cobra's after the cam package. My buddy with the 97 PI heads and houston performance cams runs with his cousins 99 cobra and then he kicks his ass when he hits the bottle

Yeah I jsut prefer the clean lines of the older sn95 cars to tell you the truth..plus there arent alot of them in good shape anymore so it seems to turn heads pretty well

Yeah my motor is great..only oil it burns is from pcv blow by but thats completely normal and a common problem even on new stangs..other than that I leak a tad of oil from my oil pan and thats it! I am going to sjip jsut a head swap bc I dont want to have to change pistons before I can boost and I see no point in having new heads on a 170k block and internals I have heard these motors bolt up with no changes really and they are less than 800 bux on the average..good luck and lets keep these cars on the road and lookign good

I also was torn as to wether I should sell mine and buy the 99+ Stang or just do the PI swap to mine. I liked the 99+ body style better, but my car had such low mileage [12,000miles] and looks like brand new. I really hated to sell it and buy a newer Stang with more miles, and take the chance it may turn out to have problems. So after much deliberation I decided to just do the PI swap and I'm happy I did, as the only thing I disliked about it before was the fact that it was wimpy.

I'd keep the 96, I like the body style better.

Mine only has ~69K on the clock but I'm still unsure exactly what I want to do. I have some money into it as far as bodywork, exhaust, wheels, and I just bought a shifter. I would think the wheels and bodywork would add a little value to it if I were to sell it (seeing as I paid less for the car cause it needed some bodywork). I still have the stock wheels though...I could always keep what I have now for the next stang. Anyways its a tough decision...I really do like the style of the sn95s over the 99-04s with the exception of Mach 1s and Cobras. A 96-98 Cobra is tempting...

Keep it and do the PI swap...then you will be making more power than the 99+ stangs. Plus, it will be way cheaper. Search around for PI swap info, and ask around because there are a lot of people on here that have done the swap and can tell you anything that you need to know in order to do it yourself. Good luck...

The '99+s are not all that. For a small amount of money you can be just as fast if not faster. It's only heads and the intake we're talking about to make the same powerhouse. ($1,000.00) Then wantever they do to be faster you can do too. But why get rid of a sexy curvy car and spend all that money on a box when for very few dollars you can bring your powerhouse up to their powerhouse?

Keep the '96.

For me, I think I'm going to pass up the PI heads and go directly with a SC. Then let's see what's up....

77000 she runs great and it has a nice full body kit. i paid $5000 for it 3 months ago and i love the ride and look. I think you guys convinced me to keep the 96. I just don't want to get the PI heads and come to find out that i need to change out a bunch of other things too. I don't have too much cash to play with. So around $1200 PI heads another $500 cams... what else is a must do to complete this swap! Thanks for the info.

You can get everything you need from Parkway Ford:
http://performance.parkwayfordga.com/2vheadswap.asp
then all you need to do is tap the aluminum crossover for the second temp sensor and your set.

I've never ONCE contemplated selling my 97 and getting a 99-04 GT. Definitely not worth it in my opnion.

Its the 4v's that tempt me!
