I just purchased a 96 mustang gt. i put about 800 miles on it and it started to make a clicking noise when i get on the throttle and was only doing it when it was in gear at first but now does it when i start it. I can rev the engine in nuetral and it wont do it. i did notice yesterday that a couple of times when i started it it made kind of a howl like the starter was running a little after starting. i'm pretty sure its not a u-joint. any help would be greatly appreciated

Not sure if this is it but a common problem with GT's is the throwout bearing. What will happen is when you are in gear it will make a small clicking noise but whenever you put your clutch down at all it will stop. Try putting your clutch down and see if the noise stops and then when you lift back up if it starts again. If so that means its your throwout bearing.

it seems to do it more often when i have the rpms up over 3000 and doesn't do it all the time. I did notice this morning that it seemed to get faster when i accelerated but quits once my speed levels out. iTs not a pop, more of a metalic click or even an electrical clicking if that makes any sense. Its not a real load noise if you have the radio turned up more than 4-5 you can't hear it over the radio.

thank you for the responses I took it to my mechanic A.K.A my father in-law and he found the problem the cold air intake bushing fell off and when the motor was under torque it would rattle.

thank you everyone for their input
Thanks James
