'96 Mustang 3.8l v6

The temp gauge is constantly reading cold even after it had overheated. It's not throwing any codes other than a purge valve malfunction, not sure if it's related in any way. What do I need to check?

IMO you should verify there isn't any air trapped inside the coolant jacket. IF the ECT is in contact with air instead of coolant it will read low.
