i have a 96 mustang with a 4.6 she has 180,000 mile and is getting tired. i recently aquired a 5.0 motor from a moutaineer with gt-40 upper and lower. i was wondering if i will need a k member out of a 94 or 95 5.0? different motor mounts. i just put new mounts in. also will the bell housing bolt up to the 5.0 motor or will i need a new one. i have a t-5.

You will need a new k-member, trans, wiring harness can be modified but, you better have access to Fords pin programming and be good at reading prints and undertand what does what. You will also need a different computer. 96 Ford Bronco. You would be btter off selling the car and buying a 94-95 Mustang. It pretty expensive to do the swap.

there is alot to change to make it work ... you might consider trying to find another 4.6 or rebuilding the one you have. you'd probably end up saving some money and headaches that way.

i had a 1996 4.6 a few years ago, similar situation as you ... i decided to sell it and bought a 5.0 instead because there are so many more options with it. see my sig for an example ...

more info on my situation

i want to put a moutaineer motor in my 96 stang. my buddy works at a ford dealership he set me up with a 2002 moutaineer that was rolled over. he said i can take what ever i need ecu wiring harness and motor. so if im not wrong all i need yet is headers, trans, and k member? let me know if im missing something

I think the brake booster is different in our cars from the 96 & up. You will also need a new H or X pipe, headers, K-member, transmission, drive shaft slip yoke, computer and probably a new wiring harness. The front engine cover and water pump is different on the Mustang than the Mountaineer. I'm not sure about the oil pan. The gauges will also need to be replaced.

This is going to be a MAJOR project. Stick with the mod motor variants.
