i have a 96 mustang with a 4.6 she has 180,000 mile and is getting tired. i recently aquired a 5.0 motor from a moutaineer with gt-40 upper and lower. i was wondering if i will need a k member out of a 94 or 95 5.0? different motor mounts. i just put new mounts in. also will the bell housing bolt up to the 5.0 motor or will i need a new one. i have a t-5.

you will need a kmember, computer harness, computer...
dunno about the bellhousing i think it might work
also you may want to find a 5.0 HO cam to put in the moutaineer engine, i hear they had tame cams

I'm fairly certain that the bellhousing is different. Correct me, anybody, if I'm smokin' crack.

You'll need a different bellhousing for sure. If your car is manual, it's a T-45, so you'll also need a different transmission, too. The K-member I can't verify.

yes, you will indeed need a SBF K-member. I know that Maximum Motorsports at least Makes a K-member for that purpose.

With the money you'll spend on the swap, you might just be able to rebuild the 4.6 with a 5.0 stroker kit or pop in a 5.4. A little investigating would be needed here.

You will need a new k-member, trans, wiring harness can be modified but, you better have access to Fords pin programming and be good at reading prints and undertand what does what. You will also need a different computer. 96 Ford Bronco. You would be btter off selling the car and buying a 94-95 Mustang. It pretty expensive to do the swap.

there is alot to change to make it work ... you might consider trying to find another 4.6 or rebuilding the one you have. you'd probably end up saving some money and headaches that way.

i had a 1996 4.6 a few years ago, similar situation as you ... i decided to sell it and bought a 5.0 instead because there are so many more options with it. see my sig for an example ...

I think the brake booster is different in our cars from the 96 & up. You will also need a new H or X pipe, headers, K-member, transmission, drive shaft slip yoke, computer and probably a new wiring harness. The front engine cover and water pump is different on the Mustang than the Mountaineer. I'm not sure about the oil pan. The gauges will also need to be replaced.

This is going to be a MAJOR project. Stick with the mod motor variants.
