I really am not good with wiring so please guys, If youre a genuis with the subject give me some imput!
The car had a bad ALT when I got it so I replaced it, unluckily enough with another bad one, so I got another, bench tested it, it was good so I put it on, now instead of the voltage hanging on the N on the normal gage like it did with the bad alt, it now bounces erraticly from the N to the O and occasionaly it will go to the middle where it should be and stay for a while. There is no set pattern to when it moves except for throttlle input, just light touch of the gas will send the needle up but then back down, even staying on the gas, once again it seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes that problem reverses itself, pressing the gas makes it go down, I have also noticed, everytime the voltage goes up, the oil pressure goes down.
I did some searching, inspected the power wire and fuse links, they look good, I found a round 6 pin plug that was charred like it was on fire at some point, thinking this was the problem, I unplugged it and the oil gage quit but voltage stayed low, anyone know what all the 6 pin plug does besides run the oil gage? Could this be the voltage problem? The wires that go to the connector look good but 2 pins are black like the burnt plastic plug???
